Passing Colorado emissions with single turbo car
 

Posting this in the new member forum for obvious reasons.

I'm contemplating purchasing a 1994 FD running a Garrett T4 kit with no cat. The car in question has retained the airpump. The seller is willing to have a high flow cat installed & the car re-tuned to accommodate the change. Before doing so, however, I was wondering if any of the Colorado guys living in an emissions controlled county have been able to get a car to pass without the stock downpipe.

We had to put the stock DP back on our MSM to get it to pass. Also, I've heard of the them failing cars that passed the sniffer test, but lacked the appropriate number of cats.

no way in hell that a rotary passes without a cat.
did you buy it yet or is it up to the owner to sell it to you with a pass(meaning OK) on the Emissions?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't bought the car yet. It's in FL and I'm in CO. It would be sold with an aftermarket high flow cat. However, due to the single turbo setup, there's no way a factory downpipe could be fitted. Based on what I'm reading, they might fail it for missing the pre-cat in the downpipe even if it blows clean.

search the regional sections of the Forum (wherever Colorado would fall into).
The guys there would know some loopholes or info on where you can take the car near you to get it smogged.
There are places that just rely on the readings,but others may want all the crap to be attached.

Thanks & will do. There are a couple posts on one of the local forums about the emissions techs failing the FD guys for missing equipment even if the car blows clean. Sigh.
