Paint revival with polish?

Hello!
I just bought my first FD, and it has some paint oxidation I'm not a fan of. I was wondering, is it possible to revive the shine of the paint through a professional's detail/ polish? I really don't want to respray the car, especially because the paint is all original and really isn't bad except in this one small area. The information on whether the red colors in '93 had a clear coat or not aren't clear and contain conflicting information. I was just wondering if anyone here had their car paint fixed up with a detail/ polish. After that, what would be the best way to maintain the paint quality on the car from here on out? Thanks!

The ability to restore the paint would depend on whether the clear/top coat has been compromised or not. A way to to check would be to dab a rag in a tiny amount of paint thinner and rub somewhere inconspicuous, if it comes away red then there's no clear. Other than that, maybe post some pictures so people with more experience can pitch in?

This was a super educational video when I had that exact same question.

I'm in this same boat. I have recently acquired a red 93 R1 that has some serious oxidation. Overall, it's in great shape with no rust, dings, or scratches. Just oxidized.

I'm currently hunting a good detailer to get some specific info on what can possibly be done. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I'm thinking it's gonna need to ultimately be repainted - for sure the plastic pieces.

Keep us posted (with pics) as to what you come up with.

Good luck!

I'm taking the in to get some dents repaired and the shop said they can fix the paint oxidation with some polish. Will take before and after pics, but the shop has tons of cars so it probably won't be finished for another 2-3 weeks.

Here's a couple of close-ups of mine. Is yours this bad?

Once I get the oil metering pump replaced, I can drive it to get estimates.

I had some light oxidation fixed with Polish, on a different car. If I can fine before and after pics, I'll post them up.

I wouldn't say my paint is that bad, but it has a sunroof which might mask it a bit to my eyes? As it turns out. I don't have the money right now to afford a good polish so I can't show before and after pics, and the car is getting the throttle fixed as it was sticking so it isn't in my possession atm. If I can sell my Panasport G7's then I can get the paint fixed up. Just need to sell them first ugh.

have you considered vinyl wrapping?
