Old lurker...finally chiming in.
Hey all,
So I've been a lurker here for a while with some sporadic posting but I'm finally looking to get into it and become a little more active. I just completed a a full complete stock 87 turbo 2 swap into my 88 convertible (ecu, wiring harnes, trams, drive shaft, rear subframe and all) and I have a couple questions. Is an oxygen sensor needed ( silly question I know ) -test drive the car and it worked fined. I popped open the hood. And was poking around to tie up a few odds and ends and notice it wasn't connected. Nor did the car act funny during the 15 min test drive. Thing is, I can't find anywhere to connect it to 2. To get around the temp sensor issue, I bought a mechanical one as it was more reliable. What I did was take the stock upper coolant filler neck ( the one that covers the thermostat), drilled a hole in it where the turbo 2 temp sensor would be and tapped it to accept the mechanical temp probe. Was this wise or not at all ? The wire for the factory temp sensor was taped off and taped around the harness there. The new gauge reads about 180 at idle and rised a few degrees to 185ish during that test drive. Idle stayed constant 180 3. Last... I missing a piece for the air intake that connect the factory box to the intake duct next to the coolant overflow bottle. Would a ram intake be better to do? Not really into power gains at the moment but I know I'll be sticking in the hot air with a cone sitting there. Thanks all. Hope to be in the road soon!!!!!!! |
well, congrats on your successful transplant and the decision to be more active on the board. :)
