Oil pan support bar?

Alright, so when i bought the car it I knew it had an oil leak. So far I'm planning on replacing the oil cooler lines and the o-rings inside the oil filter housing.

The oil pan gasket looks to be shot as well. But I've never seen an oil pan that has a support bar thing attached to it.

The bar looks to be attached to the motor mounts so I'm guessing its just there to help stabilize the engine.

What I'm wondering is if I can go ahead and just remove the bar to take down the oil pan? I'm sure it's fine if i do, just being paranoid and making sure shit won't fall on me if I do.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Do you mean the oil pan brace like this one?
FD3s Oil Pan Brace

If so then yes.

87 FC,

The passenger motor mount is attached through the oil pan and requires that you lift the engine up enough so that you can get that mount off so you can get the oil pan off.Without taking off that "bar" the pan won't come off(3 17mm bolts)
Then you undo all the 10mm bolts on the rear and sides, and the wrestle with the front 4 bolts as the pan bolts are conveniently placed between the subframe and of course the bottom front of the engine.
It's a bit of a snot bag to get to,but it's Totally doable.
I did it and I'd send ya valium and a hooker as you will need both after the stress....lol..But I used used up..BOTH...
Now I am relaxed and content..and "leak free".
Not bad for an Old guy huh?..(leak free..lol..yay!)
