Oil Filler Neck Flange Connection...
 

Hi Guys,

I was replacing the filler neck with one that doesnt have a crack on the bottom, and upon reassembly, i noticed that the flange that attaches to the bottom of the filler neck (the one off the rotor housing)turns freely...the car is a 1993 RX7.

At first, I wasn't sure why it was turning freely, however, I used basic knowledge and started turning it right (righty tighty) and it got to a point of when it was actually sort of tight.

I bolted the oil filler neck to that piece and it didnt move and it was somewhat Ok.

Can someone enlighten me on whether or not that part is serviceable? Is there a seal in there? Previous owner has advised that it had been replaced, but it almost doesnt seem like it should be rotating as freely as it was.

I've been trying to find it on the forums here, but i'm not quite sure what to call it (still a new guy) to further narrow down the search options.

It's referred to as a lower filter neck. They are press fit in, so try giving it a tap with a mallet to see if it will seat further. If that doesn't work you can try ever so slightly distorting the neck in a vise so that it will "grab" the edges of the iron better.

I'll see if tapping it will do anything for it.

Remove it, flare it with the conical edge of a large socket(19mm-20mm), clean both the iron and the neck well with Starter Fluid. Let it dry. Place a small dab-ring of JB weld. Now, finally tap into place with a rubber mallet. Let dry over night. Done

Interesting. So in order to take it off, assuming since it's as loose as it is, i can just pull up on it?

You wouldnt happen to know the part number for this one on a 93 RX7 so I can just see what the hell this thing looks like off the car?
