oil change dumb questions
dumb question.
never changed the oil in a car with an undertray. do I have to remove the undertray to change the oil? what size wrench to remove the undertray and undo the oil drain plug? any how to videos or pics that show where everything is? kinda makes me wish i still had my oil suction device via the dipstick. thanks! |
10mm bolts holding the undertray, if i remember it right you have to remove it, if not i still would.
oil drain plug is i think 14mm bolt head. buy a haynes manual, everything you need to know is there! |
The metal under-tray on the FD covers the bell-housing and transmission area...well to the rear of the oil pan. And the front under-tray is well to the front. Other than the drain plug, there is nothing to remove to drain the oil...other than the plug. It's really pretty intuitive...you shouldn't need a how-to.
If I were to offer tips... *I let the oil drain a while, to a slow drip. Doing that there's very little mess when you remove the filter, but just in case I put a towel or rag around the base of the oil filter pedestal. *Don't get upset if the oil looks dark even though you just changed it. There's always some old oil stranded in the rotors, oil cooler(s) and lines. |
Sump plug is 19mm

oops i didnt realize he´s talking about fd

..and the tray on an FC is in between the Front bumper and the subframe,so NO you do not have to take the tray off to change the oil.
|
I've heard of people jacking the front of the car up so the oil cooler(s) empty a bit more as well. Is this a real thing or a cruel joke.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachments/...s-img00330.jpg The FD never had a pan under the engine, if you're having trouble finding the engine drain plug i might suggest just having a shop do the oil change... |
