ODB scanner

What's a good scanner for pulling and interpreting codes?

misterstyx69 01-05-14 02:22 PM

One that is made for the RX7.(look at this: RX7 FD and Series 5 Error Codes )
it is NOT OBD anything..
It is OBI Wan Kanobi WTF!

PS: in the future please state your series of car as there are many versions and people will not answer your question if they need important info such as the car you need to fix.You are basically screwing yourself by not providing that info.

To expand on the above post, you can go to your "User CP", then "Edit Your Details", and add the model year to your current listing of "RX7". If your car has significant modifications (engine swap, aftermarket turbo, etc.), then you can list them in your Signature, or you can just mention them when you post a question.

OBD-0, OBD-I and OBD-II

The Solice scanner does have a option to read 1986+ trouble codes, although I have never tried it.

I have a snap-on verdict scanner and it has adapters for OBD including mazda. I have used it several times on my FD, it works for pulling codes but is pretty much limited to codes only.

Is that par for course, or are there any that do a good job of relating the code to a diagnostic?

Unfortunately the snap-on scanners are quite pricey for a code reader, usually a couple grand. The FSM has the best diagnostic strategy for every code for your particular vehicle, codes are just an initial starting point in diagnosing.
