No Heat! Its to cold for this.

Im trying to get heat to flow inside my 85 7 again. I have not had the car long. The guy I rescued it from trashed it. Things loose and jerry rigged everywhere. All I can get inside the car is cold air no matter what setting. I back flushed the core and checked the blend door. All seemed to be ok. Anyone delt with this before or have an idea what to check next?

On the drivers side of the heater core box, you will find a coolant line connected to a valve. The valve connects to a rod that goes up to the heater control. Try moving the valve manually.

Well I tried the manual thing which made no difference. Is there anything else that it could be? Like some kind of switch in the system I am not aware of. I have a hayes book which is about a useless as a ricer with no rice.

The Haynes is actually quite useful...

Are you sure the heater hoses are connected in the engine bay? With the heater valve opened, the system has no choice but to provide heat when the fan is running. Assuming the core is getting coolant, that is...

is the engine getting up to temperature? May have a bad thermostat. Possible low coolant level...? That last on is probably out of the question since you have flushed the system...but it is a place to start.

yes, check the thermostat and work from there ...

I have not checked the Thermostat really. It doesnt over heat or run cold. That is the other problem my temp gage doesnt work. The hoses including the ones going to and from the core all get hot. The air flow isnt very strong so I thought I would check for an obstruction at the core. Problem with that is it is such a pain in the ass to get in there. And the air that does get by isnt warm. I think it is just time to look for a 7 in better shape. The body is good but electrically the guy who had this last just trashed it. :wallbash: Thanks guys. Anyone know where a 7 is that just needs a motor?

Don't know where a -7 is in IL.

Have you checked the mode-control motor to make sure that your heater core doors aren't jammed into VENT mode? Your mode control switch could also be the culprit.
