No charge light??

Hi Guys,

I have an issue that I am struggling to resolve on my 93 FD.

When you turn the key to the first position where all the dash lights come on I don't get the charge/battery light come on.

All the other lights work as they should but I get nothing from the charge light at any time.

I did have issues with various warning lights not working, but with the help of all you boys and girls I have resolved all but this one.

I changed the battery recently, but it is now flat again. I have had the car running and with a meter I was getting 14 ish volts if I remember correctly.

I just cant figure out why I have not got a charge light showing before start up. Also I have never had it come on while driving.

Can anyone help, I'm a bit stumped.

Could be a bad wire connection somewhere. When you drive the car for awhile and park then try to start it is the battery dead or does it die over night?

It will normally restart if its been running a while, if you leave it over night it will not start

sounds like you have a power draw somewhere like a dome light an amp that won't turn off so while it's just sitting with the key out see if there's anything is staying on. Good luck

Would something like that explain why I don't get a charge light before starting?

Start by un hooking the neg terminal and put a test light in between them and start pulling fuses... then you'll know whats causing it, then go on from there.

For anyone suffering the same in the future, turned out to be the alternator. It was functioning ok except for the warning light part of the unit.

Had the alternator rebuilt and now its ok, got the warning light now when you first turn the key on.
