TPS adjustment
Hi all, i've recently purchased a 85 gsl-se and have lurked on this forum for a while now to soak in all the information. Great forum btw, i've learned alot from you folks.
Here, i have a problem. While adjusting my tps in an attempt to fix my idle problem, with the proper set up according to the servicemanual, i can't get to the sweet spot when only one volt meter should have voltage. Its either both power or nothing at all, and when i think i did find the sweet spot, i noticed both volt meters are flickering with on again and off again power. At the same time, i kept on hearing a fast clicking sound (might be the injectors as later confirmed by flooding of engine). Has my tps reached its life span? is it time for a new one?
On the idle problem, it is really low and shaking when i try to set it at 800, when i turn the idle screw max out, it will idle at 1200 smoothly with an intermint miss. Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Set the idle to where the motor wants it, as are motors get old, they loose some of the compression. With this lower compression they will not idle like brand new.
900-1000 rpms for a older engine isn't that big of a deal.
And the intermittent miss is kinda of a carb'ed rotary's trade mark

Actually 1200 rpm idle doesn't bother me at all, i will just turn it down below 1000 when i smog the car. The fact that i can't adjust the tps to expected result just bug the heck outta me. I did a tps test with a scope and couldn't see any drop in the graph, just can't seem to adjust it to where only one light is on or one volt meter have voltage. Whats weird is that at one point, both meters will flicker with on and off power and there is clicking of some sort, which i think are the injectors.

Problem solved. Thanks Aaron, i used your method first then use the FSM way to fine tune it. As it turn out, my tps was way out of wack.
Now, after solving that issue, i just found a new one. Before it would start right up every time, now it would start then stall out immediately. After holding onto the throttle for a bit, it would stay running but after a snap from the throttle, it would stall out again.
I looked up the first idle cam in the FSM but have a hard time locating it on the car. Anyone have a picture of it? Or approximate location? I'm guessing its somewhere hear the throttle body? Thanks in advance.
