New Street ported turbo FC oil question

I have an 87 turboII fc street ported with about 2400 miles. The shop that rebuilt the motor, and the previous owner along with a couple of other people i've witnessed on the internet admit to using diesel oil due to high revs and hot weather ( i live in orlando fl). i've been told by the previous owner and the shop owner not to use synthetic oils, but i've read around here that it's ok. I wanna make sure that i'm treating my engine to the right oil to get a good start on it's life but everyone writing about oil doesn't live where i live with the same condition their car is in. Should there be different oil uses depending on an engine being ported, where its driven and how its driven? the car is my daily driver and i don't punch it all the time to save gas. yea i'm obviously new to the site and need an answer right away so forgive me for being annoying and posting something maybe someones answered before.

welcome to the board. :)

here are my thoughts, so get your grain of salt ....

for daily driving it doesn't really matter the oil you use (brand, weight, etc.) so much as your having a healthy maintenance ethic. pay attention to your oil and change it either before or when it needs changing. as long as your oil system is physically and mechanically sound, you should be just fine. this includes your MOP if you're not premixing.

personally, i tend to shy away from lighter weights, but i know people use them with good results. i've used nothing but synthetic in my Rx-8 for the 4 years i've owned it, while i've used both mineral and synthetics in my Rx-7s. funny that you mentioned the diesel grade oil, because i'm actually planning to start using that 15W40 (i think) in all my rotaries across the board.

thanks for the welcome ha and thats good to hear. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't pointless at low rpm's to have such heavy oil. I wanna make sure i can cruise and speed when i want to but anyway i think i check my car too much lol i found a small pool of oil last night thanks to the metering oil pump. funny thing is my mechanic told me i didn't have the rod and thats why i've been premixing. I know i can remove the system entirely but why is it still leaking? I found a spot for only one of the lines...

here are my other mods i forgot to mention
Light weight rotors
3mm apex seals
t3/t4 turbo (14Ibs. 4Ib waste gate spring while breaking in)
full exhaust
