New member fuel smell issue
I have a 94 touring. Fuel pump was dead so I replaced. Now I have a fuel smell inside the car but no leaks. Are you supposed to seal the sheet metal pump cover? I also found the gas cap o ring was broken in half so I bought a new one

93-95 Rx7 Fuel Level Sensor Gasket (HG30-60-962) You should also check your fuel hoses. Make sure they are secure and are not cracked |
If you can't find the leak then take your car to a mechanic now. Do not drive the car until you fix the issue.
I had a similar issue with my first FD. One day I had a faint smell of gas upon start up but it would go away in about 15 sec. So I took it to a mechanic, they could not find my leak and said that I shouldn't really worry since it went away and to come back if the smell got stronger. Well a week later my car caught on fire (hence my first.FD) so don't take fuel smells lightly. |
PD are prone to leaking also

Thanks guys, the fuel cap oring was cracked in half. Replaced it and all is well now!

If you haven't already, I'd pull back the hatch carpet and outer cover and check fuel lines and sender gasket just to make sure. Takes two minutes and in my experience, fuel smell can be kinda transient.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll check it out and see how it looks thanks

I'm no mechanic but I know enough to realize a fuel smell isn't something to fuck around with in an RX-7. Zbbt, check the fuel pulsation dampener. That was my problem. Don't go zoom zoom boom! EDIT: lol NOW I read the whole thread. Glad you found the problem. |
I suggest checking the fuel line under the hood.
mind was having a minor leak off of the 2 feed and return line. Way under the UIM . |
