New guy from WA, need advice on 93 RX7 purchase
Hello everyone.
I am currently entertaining a trade offer for a 1993 RX7. The car is a manual, 128k on the body, 10k since the rebuild. Nice body, lots of mods, overall nice car. I have 2003 350z with 52k miles and a salvage title. The rx7 also has a salvage title due to a mileage discrepancy - no accident. What things should i look for when i go see this car? Here is a list of his mods. street ported intake street ported exaughst converted to master power t70 single turbo (noturous for these cars makes engines last 10x longer!!)- $800 turbo w/ out labor new turbo gaskiits recently changed as well fmic full apex computer w/ fc commander - $1000 after market fuel system and aeromotive fpr 550c injectors after market radiator resurculating bov greddy intake mainfold elbow aem wide band oil regulator engine stabilizer/strut bar prosport gauges full exaughst system fully adjustable k sport suspension -1000 light weight flywheel and stage 2 clutch |
Oy...
Start by going to the 3rd gen FAQ thread stickied in this forum and go to the links on Buyer's Guides and read the info in there. If that was a cut/paste from the ad, I'd probably look at another car or proceed cautiously.... Salvage title b/c of a mileage discrepancy sounds like BS. What does the carfax say? street port refers to the intake and exhaust ports on the motor. Most people just say "street ported motor" not list them individually. That means it may have been rebuilt and may have been ported. Got receipts to prove it? If not, move on. A T70 making the engine last 10x longer? Huh? How? 550 injectors are stock. Also, What the hell is an oil regulator? Be patient and get a good car even if you have to travel. There are some nice ones advertised here on the forum. |
The ad is a little suspicous, there are some discrepancies. Although it is possible that the guy bought the car from someone else so he doesn't really understand what mods it has. Run a carfax, drive the car and make sure it runs well. You might also be able to check the NW RX7 forum and see if a local guy would be willing to go with you to check the car out.
