New FD user with few problems and no car history
 

Hi folks!
My name is Michael and I am from Poland (Europe). I am new RX7 FD user, 1993 with automatic transmission.
I always dreamed to have RX7 and I succeded to buy one on Copart. And that's my first problem - I know nothing about my car because there is no contact with owner.

I need some help.

Car starts pretty good but it (when cold and when warm, that's good I guess). But in low range of RPM it idles rough and exhaust pops really loud (like running too rich, I dont know really).
When driving in higer RPM range car goes pretty good. I changed spark plugs, wires, I repaired alternator cause it didn't charge, fixed few hoses vacuum hoses but still on low RPM it idle rough and sometimes it stalls when changing from P to D gear.
In my opinion it has some eletrical problems (maybe grounding?) cause sometimes I cannot gears can't be shifted because of gear lock and I can't pull out key from ignition.

Not sure where to begin now. I've read a lot and I was thinkin of checking all grounding points and if this doesnt help

Car has big 3" exhaust, HKS turbo timer, boost/oil temp/water temp gauges (but not installed)
Maybe it was street ported? Maybe it was programmed with some kind of computer like Power Commander or Apexi (don't know the names yet) and when sold on copart owner took everything out for sale?

Any ideas, any help will be much appreciated!
In Poland there are very few RX7's so I don't have many people to ask.

Compliments on your English Mike.
First, I'd download a copy of the Factory Service Manual from the FAQ Sticky at the top of this page.

Second, if those are your only modifications, then make sure you have the STOCK NGK plugs in the STOCK heat ranges BUR7EQP Leading and BUR9EQP Trailing.

Third, You can lose the turbo timer. It really has no functional use in the car. Since the turbos are water cooled, and since coolant temperatures actually go UP during idle, it's counter-productive. But more importantly I could see it contributing, at least in part, to an electrical problem if it weren't installed properly.

Fourth, Adding grounds is a GOOD idea. Use heavier gauge wire and think of it as making a circle...Engine to Battery, Battery to Chassis, Chassis to Engine.

Fifth, You need to add the boost gauge and either Oil Temp or Coolant Temp. In a relatively stock car driven on the street I don't think there's a reason for both. Coolant temp is usually easiest to install. DO NOT rely on the stock temperature gauge.

I have no experience with an auto FD but the FSM should give you some trouble-shooting to do regarding the lumpy idle and stalling from PARK to DRIVE.

1. FAQ & Manual was first thing I read even before car arrived at my door step :)

2. Spark plugs and wires are stock NGK 7 and 9, already installed

3. Will think about that.. there is lots of wires and first need to take a close look where to start

4. I am trying to find grounding points

Any use of voltage metering somewhere?

Also I will try to clean (if it is possible) Idle Air Control Valve - i've read it is responsible for many idle issues AND I just bought fuel filter just for my own sake.

Well done on the purchase! I hope she brings you many years of happiness. With regards to your rough idle it could also be the throttle position sensor out of spec....

Maybe in the near future you may want to convert to manual as autos do tend to have a few more issues, especially the age of the car not hero g.

Swap from Auto->Manual is one of my plans for next 2 years :)

IAC valve is just a connector, two 10mm bolts and use brake parts cleaner.
