New FD owner, boost and antenna questions
Hello everyone, I've had my rx7 for a few months and just installed a boost gauge yesterday. It's a S7 with a stock ECU, HKS RS intake, and came with the efini y-pipe from the factory i think. At WOT my boost level first spikes to 12.3 psi and then levels out at 12 psi, drops to 8 psi during the changeover, and then goes back to 12 psi until the redline. What could be the cause of this? Is 12 psi too much for the engine to take?
Also, what sort of connector does the auxiliary antenna in the back hatch use? Can I get an adapter that will convert it into a motorola plug? |
12 psi is too much on the stock ECU. I would refrain from going WOT until you figure it out. A typical cause for spiking is from opening the intake side of the engine.

Where would be a good place to start diagnosing the problem? Any common causes of overboosting?

If you want to confirm the cause of your boost spike and have the OEM intake box, install it and see if the spike goes away. Boost spike typically happens when a less restrictive intake is installed...such as your HKS.
Once the cause is confirmed, a boost controller, either manual or electronic, can be installed. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-arch...review-192249/ ^This is from the 3rd Generation section FAQ sticky....great reference source for a new owner on any number of things. |
Thanks for the help, but I think I've figured it out. Apparantly the series 7 had more boost from the factory, so I may well be running the right boost level! Mazda RX7 History
