New engine having problems
I just got my 93 fd back after having a new engine put in it. and it has been street tuned
the mods: large street port 3mm ceramic apex seals upgraded fuel system with stock primaries and 1600cc secondaries greddy t78 turbo kit greddy fmic koyo rad power fc hks twin power aluminum ast First problem i noticed was that it smokes a lot. It smells like idemitsu premix but im not sure if the premix is supposed to make the car smoke at all or even as bad as it is, and the premix has been measured correctly to my knowledge Second problem is that the car will not hot start at all unless its push started and at idle the water temp rises rapidly. Tonight as i was taking it home i went to turn into my neighborhood and it died on me so i just popped the clutch on it real quick and got it to start, but it died shortly after when i went to pull into my driveway. The starter is new. I took the battery and alternator to the local auto parts store and had them tested. Both tested good and strong. The engine has about 100-150 miles on it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Takes a while for ceramic seals to form a seat so compression will be low for the first thousand miles or so.
As for the smoke, what colour is it? Do you have any way of measuring AFRs? Sounds to me like the tune is very rough. For the first thousand miles or so, the engine will constantly be changing so the tune will need to be adapted as well. |
who rebuilt your motor? ceramic seals are nice!!!! sounds like a good setup just break it in easy.

The AFRs are around in the low 13s at idle. i only went into boost once and it stays in the high 10s to low 11s. the smoke is more of a white color with a slight bit of blue.
The engine was built by Brian at rotorsports racing in Kannapolis NC. I talked to him today and hes having me bring it back down to check everything out and fix any problems. |
