need help with wiring
I'm for sure a n00b when it comes to wiring, so I figured it'd be best for me to consult people who know before I mess things up.
First problem; wiring e-fan to a relay and switch (switch is temporary) The relay has 5 wires. According to the guy at Parts Express, black - ground, white + switch, blue + battery, red not connected, yellow - fan +. The switch has 3 connections, one for ground, acc and power source. the fan has negative and positive. Like I said, I'm a n00b, but this seems to be pretty simple. After hours of messing with this, I gave up. Second problem; I just bought an Innovate LC-1 w/ DB gauge. Basically, I just don't fully understand how to connect everything. I've looked at some things on the forums but just about everyone has a 7th wire and that throws me off track. Also, I was confused as to whether to wires from the back of the gauge are to be spliced in with the wires from the o2 sensor... I'm stumped! Third problem; My friend wired up 3 gauges, the e-fan (before we bought the relay - has been removed), indiglo gauges (switched on with fan, which was kinda really stupid - will be wired differently) all spliced into the + and - of the cigarette lighter. Is this safe? If so, is it safe to tap power from this for the LC-1 or should I tap a different source? Thanks for the help in advance. Let me know if something doesn't make sense here and I'll do my best to clear it up. |

Here is how a relay works, get your 12Volts from the Battery only, the switched power can be anything that turns on and off with the key.

cool thanks i'll give this a try

As for the fan, http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/efaninstall.htm
Have you read the instructions that came with the LC1? They seem pretty clear and are step by step. What specifically are you having trouble with? Tapping all of this stuff (especially the e-fan) into the cigar lighter circuit is a disaster. You can get away with powering the gauges that way, though it is not ideal. Since you intend on adding electrical equipment to the car, go to the auto parts store and pick up a small auxiliary fuse box. You can then mount this fuse box, wire it to the battery + terminal and run all your additions off of it. Use a relay switched off of a 12V IGN source (black/white wire at the key switch) to provide switched 12V to your stuff. |
alright i'll do that. thanks.
the e-fan is now running off the battery as opposed to the lighter. as for the lc-1; on the o2 sensor side there are 6 wires red is for 12v blue and white are grounds (says to ground these at the same point) yellow and brown are analog outs black is the calibration wire what i'm confused about is the black. is this even necessary? can i just set off the yellow and black wires to the side and not use them? also, can i just tap the 12v power from another gauge for this? on the gauge side there are 4 wires; red is 12v black is ground (says to ground this at the lc-1s white ground point, does that mean the white from the o2 sensor where the blue and white are supposed to be grounded together?) white goes to the brown from the o2 sensor yellow goes to a headlight power wire i know this is probably easier than i'm making it, i'm just not very good with wiring yet. thanks |
i jus wired my rx7 up a bit ov a mission!!!!
