Need help with my Fc! Please help ASAP

M car is running rich and then lean and then normal to rich again and then drops idle from 1000 to 200/300 and dies in neatrl or with the clutch in and then doesnt start back up... I dont know whats up... i was told it could be dude to the wrong fuel, which i let my buddy fill my car up and he could have accidently filled it wrong. Would this cause my car to die out after running for 10-15 minutes. Please help me out ! Anything helps...

Feel free to email me- gabe.taylor76@yahoo.com

How do you know it's going rich and lean?

It sounds like you have a good sized vacuum leak.

What fuel did your friend fill the car with? As long as it's some type of gasoline it should run fine.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-04-08 11:51 AM

I know its running rich because i tested it on a emissons tester in my school auto shop and thats what my shop instructor said.

Im not sure what kind of fuel is in my car, my friend pumped gas. I just know its not disel... But the rx7 manual says premium could cause my car to run the way it is and i should only use unleaded. And my friend swear he pumped unleaded. So, i dont know what to do.

I guess i could check for vacum leakage...

CobraS89 12-04-08 01:26 PM

premium gas is unleaded you could have a leak in your air intake or yes possible a vacuum leak. i had a vacuum leak and it made my car idle weird once in a while and the car didn't warm up to quickly.

Aaron Cake 12-04-08 01:34 PM

Because you mentioned the manual says premium, I assume you have an FD?

A vacuum leak will cause all manor of strangeness, including hunting idle and misfiring. As there are about 7 billion vacuum hoses on an FD, check those first.

Is the car stock? Any exhaust work? Cats?

rowtareh? 12-04-08 01:38 PM

It says in his profile he has an S5. So count out the FD junk already. We need more information on your car to help you figure out what's wrong....the stuff Aaron Cake posted.

CobraS89 12-04-08 02:18 PM

i have ran premium in my s5 a few times and i did not have any problems.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-05-08 10:27 AM

My car is an Fc! I sold my S5, now i have an 1988 s4 gxl, stock 13b with a rebuild about 4or5k ago. Help me out now

mr.rotaryrx7 12-05-08 12:47 PM

I was told to never run premium and thats rx7's hate. Then i read in the owners manual of my 1991 to never run synthetic oil or premium gas

Aaron Cake 12-05-08 12:55 PM

Nothing bad will happen if you run premium. It's just wasted money.

Keep in mind that modified turbo RX-7 should be running premium if they are running more boost or a larger turbo.

Synthetic oil is fine as well.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-05-08 05:37 PM

oh well damn, that's good shit to know because i plan on swapping my n/a 13b to an s4 turbo. But that still doesn't solve my problem... My car still isn't running.

Aaron Cake 12-06-08 10:11 AM

Well, have you checked for vacuum leaks? Also test the BAC.

jehicks87 12-06-08 10:45 AM

All gas is unleaded now. If you were to add lead to your gas, not only would it mess your car up but you would go to jail for a long time. I don't even think you can buy the lead they had in gas anymore...

Check for leaks. These guys know what they're talking about, and they're very helpful.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-06-08 04:49 PM

i checked for leaks and didnt really find anything, i dont know what BAC is, what is it and how do i check it?

Lastly, i didnt Add lead in my gas tank, why would i do that? i said unleaded(regular) gas.

And i know these dudes know what they are talking about thats why im asking them for help

mrenns34 12-06-08 09:44 PM

The bac is located on the back of the intake it has coolant flow threw it and has a green plug that looks like an injector plug also how did you check for leaks

The Factory Service Manual can be found in the FAQ For FC thread. It contains all this information and more, and is an essential tool for any sort of service work that needs to be performed on these cars.

Additionally, the Haynes service manual for the 1986 thru 1991 RX-7 (both turbo and NA) can be found at most local auto parts stores or purchased from any good bookstore (ISBN number 1 56392 007 7). It is only about $25 and is a great quick reference for things like this. Not only does it contain most of the information in the FSM condensed into an easy to read format, but it includes full wiring diagrams as well.

These manuals will answer 99% of service related questions for the car and if you intend to do your own repair work, you will need at least one of them. Preferably both, since the FSM is a free download.

i was told if you spray around the vaccum lines with propane and the idle drops then you have a leak. So i did that and nothing happened... But i could check the BAC thing Monday at school.

You can still buy lead supplement for cars. My father had to run it in his 68 Firebird years ago, and in his 23 T-Bucket.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-07-08 03:47 PM

I dont need or want lead supplements!!!

Never said you did, I am just correcting somebody who was wrong. Aaron Cake has proven links for what you need to do to solve your problems. Don't get fussy. ;)

mr.rotaryrx7 12-08-08 05:24 PM

tested the tps today and then tested another one i had laying around, the one on my car had less contenuity then the one off my car, think i solved the problem.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-09-08 03:00 PM

not the Tps, or the Bac. I replaced both with ones off my old motor that i tested. Tested compression- 100psi in both rotors. Help me out, my rx7 is still fucked! =[

mr.rotaryrx7 12-09-08 03:09 PM

Could this problem be my injectors??? The dude at atkins rotary said it could be

kenneth oberg 12-09-08 09:17 PM

I think u should go to your nearest Mazda dealer and pay the $100 to get a diagnostic on it then fix it yourself. It sounds like u don 't know to much about the rx7 so go see the pros first u might save some money in the long run instead of trying to fix things thst dont need to be fixed.

mr.rotaryrx7 12-10-08 06:08 PM

Okay that sounds legit ill check into it, thanks for your help. Now i just need to get a hundred dollars =]
