Need help deciding what to do with my RX7
 

Hey everyone...


I picked up a '88 GXL rx7 n/a for 300 bucks a week ago.

Now the trouble that I am having is, what to do. The engine is not running at the moment, and the body needs work. I'm currently in the process of yanking out the engine, which will be happening in the weekend to come.

I need help as to what to choose

Rebuild my 13b n/a engine

or go to a Turbo II setup

or it is there any other type of engine mod I should do? (oh please no V8 suggestions hehe, is my first time playing with rotary and I wanna keep it rotary)

I'm trying to shoot from 350-400 hp


any type of suggestions would be great, this will also be a daily driver.

If you are shooting for 350-400 mods...you are looking at a turbo motor, with a bigger turbo and all the supporting mods. Probably a full stand-alone as well.

Go with a turbo II swap cause ull never get 350-400hp out of an N/A! Yeah im with you on the v8 swap i love the rotary engine and u can easily get just as much Hp out of a rotary as you would a V8!

I just picked up a turbo II tranny and turbo II LSD with drive shaft for 300 dollars. I'm about to go and grab a Turbo II motor pretty soon and take a look at it. Now, would I need to do any porting?

What is the next step after getting the Engine and ripping it apart?

Just to answer your question, you don't NEED to port to hit 350-400. Most recommend it, but turbos can do anything.

You WILL need a stand alone ECU (Haltech or similar) and a happy fuel system.

350-400hp won't require too many retarded tricks as far as the engine rebuild goes. should be pretty standard. Look up rotary aviation and get their rebuild video, good stuff.

Then go to nopistons.com make an account, and look in the "rotary building and porting" for some AWESOME tricks and tips.

if you are shooting for 350-400 hp you should really consider doing an s5 (89-91) on up block or at least do an engine stud kit. the s4 tII rear plate has a frail dowel seat which will not hold up repeatedly to that kind of hp. at bare minimum, consider doing a s5 rear side plate. they are interchangeable. the s5 dowel seat should be strong enough to handle the extra hp. in other words an s4 engine can not hold up to the repeated stress (twisting, torque, ie) of that much more hp.
