Need help changing an alternator belt
Hi everyone, I'm new to the page and recently wanted to start fixing up my RX7 myself instead of going to a mechanic.
My my question is, can someone please tell me how to change my alternator belt step by step? I will definitely appreciate it so I can get my baby back on the road! |
Welcome to the forum, you will find LOTS of information and help here. However - it would be good to know which RX7 you have! Also please go and introduce yourself on the new member section as well.
Secondly I would strongly suggest you download the FSM and get a Haynes manual. They both explain changing an alternator belt in easy to follow steps and are essential if you plan to do your own maintenance :icon_tup: |

I second getting the FSM. It's a must. But in this particular case when giving direction on the proper belt tension it will probably specify a certain amount of deflection, using a special tool and at the longest section between pulleys. Not a lot of help to a novice. I think I'd recommend tightening gradually, guesstimating at that specified deflection using your fingers and err'ing on the loose side. If you don't get squeal on start-up or hard quick engine acceleration with the lights and heater going, you're probably done.
Looks like the pictures are gone but FWIW I did find this.... https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...ebelts-815563/ |
