need help asap - FD coolant issues
recently bought a 96 rx-7 and at first it was so amazing...now i cant even drive it for more than 15mins...not holding any coolant....losing water....overheating very easily....past few days wont even start...coolant sensor keeps beeping...
i did a pressure check......no leaks changed t-stat and sensor.....but still same way had 3 different garage check it out and all 3 gave different answers... took it to the mazda dealership and they want me to replace the engine...wtf!! all advice will be gr8fully accepted...thanks all |
Mazda was right for the first time! damn. You probably blew a coolant o ring. Replace your water pump with this tool real quick and pressure test. http://www.pineappleracing.com/cooli...estercspt.aspx
Make sure your overflows not cracked. You have to bleed the cooling system thoroughly when you refill otherwise you get air pockets in the engine that cause overheating. What were the 3 responses you got? How many miles on the current motor (not the chassis)? and what kind of motor(reman etc etc)? Dont start it again until youve diagnosed the problem or youll just cost yourself more for a rebuild. |
if your running coolant and not water, smell your exhaust. it will smell sweet, and not like burnt gas if a water jacket is bad. this is a free not so accurate way to test.
but to be sure... get the tool listed above. |
Yup mazda was probly right for once on this one. Your coolant seals are probly gone. In other words Time for a rebuild........
|
Rule #1 of FD ownership: the moment you think you have any overheat or coolant system issue, shut the engine off and stop driving the car. Period.
What did the 3 different garages say? Were any of them rotary shops? Based on your brief description, bad coolant seals are very possible. Engine rebuild time. |
