my first FC build questions
hey, im new to the site and i have questions about the car im building. It was my first car and it was a NA 86 FC. so far i have: changed turbos and maniflods, rebuilt and street ported the engine, installed microtech lt10s, and swapped everything to a tII drivetrain. It runs and everything but i am stuck. I want to know if anyone knows how to install aftermarket gauges. really the only one i am having trouble with is, where to place the aftermarket water temp sensor.
A good place for an aftermarket temp sender is on the back side of the water pump. The rest of it is just wiring power, ground and probably lighting.
i will need to tap a whole there tho. also where can i get a fitting that will fit the stock oil sensor hole.
Yes, you would drill and tap a hole in the housing.
www.mcmaster.com will solve your fitting need. You'll need to determine the size and thread pitch on oil pressure sender. I assume you're going to hook up an aftermarket oil pressure sender/gauge at the stock location? Another option would be an aftermarket oil filter pedestal that is pre-drilled for standard NPT sizes. |
dont use one....
or just get a simple on off switch for the fan, jut remember to use it lol
Never use a simple switch for a fan.

ok i just got everything installed actually. got a wet line running from the old oil press sender hole and found a sutable hoel on my radiator but i will want to change it later i suppose. but untill then i should be ok. THANKSSS

If you have the sensor on the radiator, keep in mind that until the temperature reaches thermostat temp (~180 F), your gauge won't read correctly at all. Second, if the sender is just touching metal, it won't be an accurate measurement; it needs to be submerged in the coolant. Third, the coolant on the bottom half of the radiator will be cooler than the coolant on the top half. It flows top to bottom (and passenger to driver-side) and temps drop as it goes.
