Mounting VIN plate on new defroster vent?
1 Attachment(s)
I just purchased a new defroster vent and I'm having trouble mounting the vin plate onto it.
The old rivets are still on the plate, and I want to take them off without damaging my VIN. Is there any way to do this without having to go out and buy a rivet gun? Attachment 691611 |
If the rivets go into the holes then just apply a little glue and push the VIN into place.
If the holes are smaller drill them so those rivets will slip into the holes.Carefully glue the VIN into place. If you want, you can apply the glue to the OTHER side where the rivets have gone through the vents and just apply glue around the rivet itself, and that will hold it also. |
I thought about drilling the holes bigger, but was worried it would crack/damage my new vent. Also I thought about applying glue, but didn't in case I need to switch vents again.
Is there anyway to remove the rivets on the vin plate safely? If not I might just man up and just drill bigger holes. Thanks. |

the vent is new?
It won't break with a high speed drill bit. I just got IN from tossing my Dash plate, and old vents..they literally Broke looking at them. I took the VIN off the vent and those rivets were still intact. Drill the damn holes!!!..Lol!..quit over-thinking a simple task! |
Haha yeah the vent is new, I'll go ahead and try to drill em. Thanks.
