motor mounts gone bad?

hey guys denton here, i know iv already posted about how my car will vibrate the shifter nob at about 3k rpm and up. yall helped me out quiet a bit but i have another question. iv been reading and a lot of people say rx-7 motor mounts are just solid mounts so theyll shake your car some cause there coping with the engine power. is that true? and also what about a warped fan? coukld that be the issue? if yall could maybe help tell me how to check a few things so i can see if there the problem id appreciate it, i just need to narrow it down to find the issue. once again my throw out bearing is spining a little bit. not bad, but i can here it rubbin. THANKS ! -denton

its an 83. 12a stock. all it has is a webber 48ida carb on her. and people have told me u-joints but would they make the vibrating noise when the cars in neutral? it does it in neutral, when the clutch is pressed, and when the clutch is depressed. when im driving and in gear and press in the clutch it stops when the rpm goes down. but if im driving and down shift and let off clutch it vibrates till the rpm get below like 2800rpm.. thanks for the reply btw!

I would check into getting shifter bushings, if they are worn the shifter will vibrate a lot

I found that my lower insulator washer is missing on my transmission cross member bar. Could that be the reason? It's like a rubber washer one side has one on the bottom and one on top. And the other only has one on bottom. And I can move it around cause the bottom ones missing and the nut won't tighten down no more. Could that cause the vibration?

Very good possibility

Are my transmission mounts suppose to have the rubber connected to the mount? My trans mounts rubber isn't connected. I can Jack the trans up off the rubber part where it bolts down.the part that's bolted on the trans just slides over the rubber part that bolts on the cross member bar. Is that a bad mount?

KansasCityREPU 02-17-16 10:04 PM

That mount is suppose to be a solid piece. It's cheap.

So that's the issue then? The cause of the vibration? Because I can Jack the trans up and the bracket that connects to the trans without loosening the mount nuts. The bracket left's up pass the rubber.

it COULD be your vibration, you or us won't know until you replace it. It obviously needs to be replaced anyways because like REPU said, its supposed to be one piece, and it sounds like it isn't from your description

The decelleration would cause the drive train to try to catch up with the rear end so that bad mount or BROKEN MOUNT would definitely give you the symptoms of a good shake when slowing down.
If the mount was good then the mount would absorb the difference in speed and you would not get the shake.
