Microtech model applications.

Greetings and Happy New Year,

I would like to try an aftermarket ECU, like Microtech, for my 84 GSL-SE. The main reason for my wanting to go with Microtech is that I live near K&D Rotary here in New Tripoli PA, and they are really able to dyno tune well with MT set-ups. Since there are hardly any members selling any MT ECU's on the 1st gen forum, I usually seek the 2nd gen forum and find many for sale there. But since I know very little about these ECU's, I am wondering if I can purchase a MT ECU that was bought for a 2nd gen and use it in my SE? I mean I'm sure that I can, but what will I need to purchase to make it work, etc? From what I understand, the difference is in the harness and the 2nd gen connector might not plug into my SE harness. Is this correct?

Basically my SE's motor is stock, but I have a fully functional S5 intake, along with the RB racing exhaust (no air pump or ACV). I want to ditch the AFM and dizzy, and be able to really fine tune my 7. In the future, I do plan on running 4 injectors instead of 2 and turbo charging. The goal is just to have a totally streetable, fast 7. I appreciate any thoughts or words of wisdom that you may have for me.

Mike

Yes, a Microtech set up for a 2nd gen will run an SE fine as long as you use the 2nd gen ignition system and CAS.

There is no connector for the Microtech to interface with the stock harness. You will get a flying lead harness with the Microtech (if it is used, then you will need to purchase this from a dealer) and you need to wire it into your car.

One thing to be aware of is that the Microtech is extremely limited compared to other ECUs on the market.
