Miata gearbox in fc transmission case

I’ve searched around the forums on this a lot and got as much info as I can I still have some in answered questions and just want a general advice on how it’s done. For starters how much does the input shaft need to be cut down? It’ll be going in a 91 n/a rx7 transmission, is it a straight bolt in process? Anyone who has done it give me any advice on it and or give a run down of the procedure anything would be appreciated

Welcome to the board. :)

I will have to get back to you on how much the shaft needs to be cut because I honestly can't remember at the moment.

Miata Input Shaft Modification

This one starts out Miata, but really ends 626 (RWD). I just thought it was cool. :)

It looks like you need to cut them 1/2-inch. Also, I forgot to mention that you're swapping the Miata gearsets into the Rx-7 case because the Type M bell-housing are not a separate piece like the Type Rs. So it's not a matter of just getting Miata tranny, modding it and bolting it to your engine.

Thanks for the reply, lots of good info on there the Mazdatrix input shaft modification really cleared it up, and yes I will be booting the headset into the fc case other than the shaft being modified the gears them self bolt straight in from my understanding? Also I’m curious if good places to look for having the machine work done I’ve heard of mazdatrix doing it I just wouldn’t even know howto go about having it done

Well, I'll respond to you this way: When you get enough posts to access the rest of the forum, you can post in your local/regional forum and see if some one can refer you to a machine shop that can do what you need.

Now keep in mind, it may not be something close to you, but if it's at least a reasonable driving distance, then it may beat shipping the part to and from California. That said, if you get to a point where you NEED it done and there is no one fairly local to you, then you may have to bite the bullet and ship it to and from CA (because they obviously know what they're doing, and they're trustworthy).

Also, you can download the photo and schematics to try and see if the shop you may be considering can figure out what to do.
