Loose Fuel Injectors [HELP]
FC3S RX7 recently started blowing weird smoke NONSTOP like CLOUDS of grey smoke smelling like gas, and the car always smells like gas if you are anywhere near it. Primaries are stock and secondaries are 1000cc (brand new so I did not pull them), I pulled the primaries and while pulling them noticed that the injectors had like ~6mm play, both of them, the secondaries didn't have this play, is this normal for primaries? The primary injectors seemed to be clean, so i put them and bolted the rail back on without the black plastic double-spacer to see if it would hold them tighter. Now I don't know if that's bad but the injectors only had about ~3mm play now. Turned the car on and still a shit ton of grey smoke smelling like gasoline. On cold start the car runs fine and keeps idle. when i set off and start accelerating and go above 5k rpm and stop again the car slowly dies and stalls. Could this be because the injectors are staying stuck open after acceleration? And if yes is the injectors staying open causing the massive clouds of gas-smoke? I have an aftermarket Microtek ECU and custom wiring so I don't know if that is screwing anything up. I just cant leave my street without causing a storm of gasoline smoke and getting angry stares from neighbours, this shit is pissing me OFF. Any help?

Your engine bay should not smell like fuel at any time,so if it does then you have to attend to that.
Loose injectors will cause that. Also excess fuel dumped when shutting down or on start up..or leaking injectors. What brand of injector are you running?.as some need to have a Hat or spacer to install. Your Microtech ECU Can't be ruled out either,as it could possibly be a bad start up map.but then again it needs to be looked over by someone who knows what they are looking for.(sorry I don't deal in that.) By the way I am local to you in Smiths Falls ..so Howdy Neighbour. |

Since I started this thread, I have texted the previous owner and asked whats up with the loose injectors, he informed me that when he put in the injectors he did not put in the Air Bleed Socket or Mix Plate for either of them......... lol. So that may be the looseness problem. As to the smoke and stalling after fast acceleration, would that be the primaries sticking open and drowning the engine when i come to a stop and my rpms drop? Cheers |

Cheers I'm betting that the problem is THAT..and the stalling would be a scenario of trying to absorb the fuel that the injectors are giving out when the engine is sucking air due to a bad injector sealing problem. It would also explain whey your car smokes on start up...too much fuel. I'll check and see this weekend if I have any air bleeds kicking around.I'll let ya know...or better yet, keep in contact with me as I am rather busy lately..got an engine job just about finished here..needs to start up. |

look no further. i happened to have learned that particular lesson the hard way. i had to fabricate spacers to keep the primary rail from pissing fuel all over the place. after i get everything sorted out and the car is running, i'll consider buying a pair of the OEM mixers/emulsifiers.

Well if you bought the car to learn, the the First rule is Patience.
This thing will test you. Half ass it and will bite you back. Do it right and it award you. The good thing is that most of what goes wrong has gone wrong and is documented in some form or another on this Site.So it's just a matter of seeking the answer. That can be found by skimming the sections. I knew Nothing about the car when I got it.Now I have still got the 2nd car I bought back in 2005 but I know "better". More Broke financially..But Better..lol! |
