Lighterweight Auto Trans Flywheel
Is there any advantage, other areas of rotating weight reduction worth looking into ?

The "flywheel" for an auto trans is called the flexplate and is already light.

I believe your missing the point on how the auto trans hooks up. The auto trans on the 7 (other vehicles do differ) does not have a flywheel per se. it has a "flexplate" which, looks alot like a flywheel, but it not, and that is what connects to the rear counterweight, and then torque converter etc etc.
The flex plate IS very light, its practically stamped steel with a ring gear on it for the starter. Your biggest problem with this idea is the torque converter, THATS heavy, and there is practically zero, zilch, nothing aftermarket go fast parts for a 7 auto trans |
That's what I was thinking but just wanted to confirm.
Now, anyone make Carbon fiber driveshafts ? Ha ! |
