Coolant Leak Coming from the back corner of the Motor on the Passenger Side, and coming out of the Turbo Downpipe?

Is this the result of a Bad Freeze Plug? Or Bad Coolant Seal?

I've also drained Coolant from the Radiator and Engine Block, why can I only Fill 2.5 quarts of Coolant in the Filler to be Full? I know the Capacity is 2 Gallons...

And Would I have to take out the just the Transmission to fix this leak?

*Have you looked above yet? It will be hard to see, but check the hose going to the throttle-body at it's origin at the passenger side top of the rear iron. There's also the turbo coolant lines in that area (see diagram)....

* The t-stat has to open in order to fill the cooling system completely. And it will require "burping" or a Lisle funnel to get the air out.

*And it's generally discouraged to start a second thread on the same issue. Leave the New Member area and you'd likely get flamed (or worse) for that.

Yeah I keep finding Leaks in Different Areas, so yeah I apologize for posting another thread on the same issue.

But I'll definately recheck the Top hoses again. Thanks

I checked the hoses on the rear iron to rear throtle body and it seems like that hose has been removed? And the throtle body is capped off.

Should I get some hoses for it? And put it back on?

The AST tank has been removed as well, doesn't the AST relieve coolant pressure? Maybe that's why it's leaking Coolant all over?

The previous owner had a shop do a Non Sequential turbo upgrade, so some lines has been removed.
Just owned this FD for a Month now so...

*The throttle body coolant hose isn't critical. Just make sure the cap isn't leaking.
*The AST would normally have a spring cap on it. It's function in stock form is to help remove air from the cooling system. If it's been PROPERLY removed, then your filler neck should have a spring cap.
*Regarding the non-sequential modification as an "upgrade" is a matter of opinion, though it does simplify vacuum hoses, solenoids etc. But those turbo coolant hoses would have been left in place and still could be a source of a leak in that area. Usually it's the upper hose that swells and bloats from heat and, conceivably, be a leak source in that area.

If the AWS hose has been deleted, the cap on the TB is not required. You need to cap the pipe off the block here...

And I've also been Wondering, How does Non Sequential Turbos Work?
It seems like Boost only comes on after 4k rpm, and feels like a single turbo.

So I Finally found the iron coolant plug...it was Hidden behind a lot of wires and hoses. Even with two flashlights it was hard to see.
I also Found Coolant in the Surrounding crevices and deep pockets around that Plug!

I will probably take off the Intake Manifold to get a better look, and replace the Plug. But Thanks Again for helping me Find the Source of the Leaks!! Now I don't have to worry about taking out the Motor and rebuilding it, or Even think about taking it to Good Year!! Hah thanks again guys!

Well, that's half the battle...finding the leak. Just thinking out-loud, if that plug failed, you might want to check the plug that's at the origin of the same line at the back of the water-pump housing as well.
It might be just as easy to simply loop an intact GOOD quality hose between those two points (i.e. the rear iron and water-pump housing) rather than messing with plugs.

The Water Pump housing plug's diameter is a bit larger than the rear irons plug, but both points is right across from each other. I'll try to find a Quality hose to connect the two.

:scratch: Mmmm, been a few years, but my best recollection is that the nipples are the same size and take the same size hose. I looped mine years ago. IIRC, there's enough nipple length to double clamp too.
Not the best picture, but that's it...makes a great line for a coolant temp gauge sensor too, which is what you see in the middle of it.

Jim's setup is neat and tidy, but you may want to route the hose around the block on the drivers side so you can see any future leaks (you definitely don't want to run it on the passenger's side). McMaster Carr is a good source for the hose and you should get something that can withstand some heat (esp if you run it under the UIM)

Looks very Clean and Color organized Jim! I see the rear iron hose connects to the water pump hose, where does the hoes go to from the Water pump?

I was just thinking about just connecting the Two points. Makes my life more Simple...lol

McMaster Carr, I will definately look into that. Are you saying Run the hose from the rear Iron, and around the throttle body to the drivers side, than back to the Water pump?

It's a suggestion. I have not yet done this, but would be worried about having water on top of all my solenoids in a high heat environment. Could be overly cautious tho

If I understand your question, just look again at the coolant flow diagram that I posted earlier. The nipple on the rear iron is the origin for the throttlebody coolant line. That line then terminates at the nipple at the rear of the water pump housing. By looping the hose between those two nipples you're simply bypassing the throttlebody.
Personal taste and opinion on exactly how you route the hose. Obviously I don't believe doubling the length and going around the side of the engine is necessary.

I had to firmly pull the Wiring Harness to the side to show you the Hidden rear iron Plug.
Shredded the plug off with Vice Grips, and what's left is a pretty corroded Tip, and as you can see, evidence of DEXCOOL in the left pocket.

Get er dun..and quit running that crappy DEX COOL..It is not Worth the jug it is in.
Flush the cooling system and get rid of it.

I've seen cooling systems that look like someone ran jelly beans through it,..Ya..Dex Cool...
You could take this shit and squeeze it like gummy bears.

Lol yeah I left it in there for two days and flushed it out, but I mixed it with some green antifreeze in a container, want to see what it does to it!
