Just got my son's future car! 85 GSL
 

Man, did I get lucky! My son and I were hunting and saw a nice red 85 sitting behind a buddy's house. It was his dad's car and he passed away in 06. My bud drove it behind the house and parked it in 07. Beautiful body and interior!!!! It hasn't been started in 4 plus years and I hope I don't run into many problems. I drained the tank, radiator, and put new gas and battery in it. It turns over fine, but I can't get it to fire up. Any ideas are appreciated! I have tried ether and gas in the carb and only got a few backfires. It is getting fire on the plugs....This car is SWEEET and I want to get it started sooo badly I can't stand it! I got for $400 and am sure it is something minor. HELP!!!!!

Does the engine get fuel?

Good chance the fuelpump is dead....

Or, it could just be flooded. Search for "deflooding a rotary" and you should find instructions on how to get her happy again.

Rotaries aren't like piston engines, where you can either hold the pedal to the floor, or wait a couple of hours while the fuel drains out of the chambers. A rotary will sit for years and still be flooded...

I put some Seafoam in the carb last night and let it sit. It cranked today! Got it running nicely and now have to replace clutch master cylinder because it is froze up...we are excited!!!
