interior question.

Hello, i have an 1986 FC, and it needs all the interior redone. i talkedto 3 different mechanics saying that i can use any interior out of an 86 to an 88 for my car. i went out yesterday and purchased a doner car, an 88 FC. so far everything fits and is going well, however my 86 FC has power windows and the 88 has maual windows. how am i to change the door panel and keep the power windows??

you'll need the door cards..they hold the switches.
You got manual on the 88?..you can swap out the window crank for the regulators and just make it manual windows.
I'll give you a good reason why Manual windows..try to get a window down when your battery is Dead.

thats very true lol. but i was wandering. the 88 needs only a motor. my 86 needs new interior. however, i went outside to start taking out the dash and I've noticed this car had a security system and also has had a racing wheel put in. racing clutch and more. the 88 seems to also be in better shape. would it be easier to just do a motor swap or to swap the interiors?

My main concern on which to swap would be condition. Does either car have problems like rust? I'd probably opt to fix the motor on the 88, but I'm not looking at what kind of shape that car is in, ya know?

On the flip side if you just swap interiors, sounds like you could scavenge some good parts for down the road, or sell them and recoup some costs?

6 of one..half a dozen of the other.
If one car runs why take it apart if the interior is the only thing wrong with it.

the 86 would need the engine harness with the engine OR use the 88 Injectors and harness on the 88.
The 86 uses a resistor pack on the harness and LO impednace injectors as the 88 uses HI impedance injectors and NO resistor pack.

under the dash in the 86 it has a lot of oxidation. as well as the wire harness in the interior needs to be replaced. the cpu needs to be replaced. and the fuse box. none of the venting for ac/heat are there. the fan blower and fan blower motor are missing. it has one rust through spot where the spare goes. the 88 has only one dent on the body, and just needs and engine. there is no engine in it currently. but has tranny and everything else. the interior is in great shape. no rust or oxidation. but to be honest I've never installed and engine, so i don't know what hooks to what and i have no manual to go by.

so if i where to put the 13b N/A from the 86 into the 88 i would need to swap my engine harness?

well if you pull the 86 engine to put in the 88 ya..take the engine harness too,and the Resistor pack( front of car, passenger side, under air box)

IF you take the manifolds off and keep the harness ON the car then you would need to swap injectors and use the injectors of the 88 on the engine.

Really,it's a personal choice and if you are capable of removing the engine and replacing.Bob's your Uncle.
BUT myself?.if I just needed some plastic inside?.I wouldn't be Screwing with taking an engine out.

Then again I don't know the mechanical condition of each car,so again it comes down to what you want to do.The engines will swap,no problem.

Adding,If you keep the harness on the 88,then use the 88 harness and injectors on the engine that you took out of the 86(minus the injectors that came on the 86).

I hope you can decypher all that info..lol!

okay, well see the thing is i don't have the engine from the 88. it was sold separate from the car. is there any way to just put the whole engine in the car without changing the injectors?

As I said.(I don't need PM's on this,btw.)
The engine would need the 86's injectors and 86's harness and 86's resistor pack IF you took it out of the 86 and decided to use that whole ball of wax in the 88.

IF you put it in the 88 and was to use the 88's harness and injector, you would NOT be able to use the 86's injectors.

The injectors are DIFFERENT,and need that Harness that it was attached to.They are different resistance wise and really don't even clip to another harness other than what they are designed for in this case.

Pull the engine harness WITH the engine and take the resistor pack...done deal.swap to the 88 ..DONE.

okay, sorry, and thank you.
