ignition identification?

I have searched the forums for bout two hours now, (the amount of info is exausting - i might just suck at searching) and did not find the answer I am looking for, the question is this: does my wiring at my ignition switch have to be soldered when i replace it?

This is where I am at:
1. from what I have read about a recent problem- hazards and wipers went out, probably the ignition switch--
2. then today, nothing happens when I turn the key, and I just put in a new battery last month! - okay, probably the ignition switch finally went completely out...
3. I removed the horn and plastic housing from the steering column and discovered soldered wires(i have never messed with this before) and I dont know how to remove or repair them.

Any help with further diagnosis or tips would be helpful, seeing as how I am flat broke and am doomed to repair this myself...:dunno:

Yes...and since a ball of solder is already at the terminals, it's just a matter of heating it up to liquify it and pushing the wire in again, in most cases. I had a pic from an ancient case of 1stgen RX-7 not wanting to start all the time when the ignition key was turned over, but it's on the ancient W98 PC that's sitting in the corner gathering dust. I'll bring it online tomorrow night and download the pic if you haven't gotten better help by then.

First, though, we need to know what YEAR car you're dealing with... ;)

my car is: 85 with 12a and Nikki. all stock, except inards of the carb- carb was rebuilt by rotary performance in Garland, TX- the recommended upgrading the seats with a bearing type(or something like that)
Everything else should be stockas far as I know-- and btw: I'm hoping you can verify my suspect diagnosis that an ignition switch could also be the culprit for my windshield wipers being stuck and not working, and hazards not working at all-- for this problem I have already checked all the dash fuses, and none are blown.
in another thread someone IDed it as a possible cause...
thanks again--

If they aren't used on a regular basis, the wiper rack tends to rust and freeze up beyond fixing status....try to work the rack by hand or run your battery volts, via jumper wires, directly into the harness clip of the rack to see if it's still good. Let me hook up the W98 tonight...I wrote a postie to myself so I'll be sure to remember...

Here's the only two pics I could find...the car wouldn't start consistently, sometimes the accessories would all not work, no blower fan, no radio, etc....I worked the solder points seen here, but it turned out to be the actual plastic cap all that stuff sits on. I used the purple zip tie to re-establish the correct contact force on that ignition switch and that cured the problems.

...and no, I don't remember what all the arrows were for anymore...those pics were part of an old tech thread I did way in the past...I'd have to dig that thread back up to get the answers... ;)
