Idle Extremely High then Dies off if Choke let in

Hey guys I have been searching throughout the day and have kinda/sorta might have gotten my answer but I wanted to ask and make sure.

I purchased an 85 RX-7 with the 1.1 and Nikki Carb yesterday.

Today I go to get it running to take it to DMV and it is extremely hard to start. Have to pull the Choke all the way out and pump it multiple times. Starts up Revs extremely high about 3-4k RPM's then when the choke goes to go in it dies.
I repeat this for about an hour.

Next, I get under the hood and the vacuum hoses are all over the place some are unplugged just hanging there etc. Through the diagram I have been slowly working to getting it all back together in the right places. Albeit I'm not sure I'm right. (I went off the diagram posted in the newbie FAQ)

Now it starts up a little easier but same problem. If I hold the choke itll idle (Very high) take it for a cruise and a few hundred feet it will go off.

Question number 1.)The previous owner stated he rebuilt the Carb, so I'm not sure if this needs tuned?

Question number 2.) I was considering following this tutorial of cleaning the Rat's Nest.
http://maz_tutorials.ten15.net/Tutorial_1.pdf
Because that is what I have been able to deduce from the problems I am having and what I have been able to find on the forum.

Question 3.) Would cleaning out the Rats nest as mentioned above the tutorial way be the best and most cost effective way of replacing the vacuum hoses?

He sold the car because he "rebuilt" the carburetor but could never get it running right again. Why they would strip down the rat's nest to do this is beyond me but you're just curing symptoms. I'm willing to bet he rebuilt the carburetor wrong.

Imageshack killed all of your pics so I had to remove all the junky html language that no longer worked. You need to hit the regional boards and find the local 1stgen guru who can see that engine personally.

I'm starting to feel like that as well. Why he sold the car at least.

Short of finding a local guru what would be my best bet at chasing down this problem?

Why didn't you move his post mar3? Isn't he in a very wrong section?

Now I know why the "move thread" box said "2" when I was moving another ad. Good catch and thanks for the sharp eyes, M....time to move it again.
