How much should a 5th gear syncro fix cost?

So, I live in an apartment complex so I can't do any major work on my FD on my own, so I'm forced to use a shop. I went to a RX7 specialist and got a quote for a 5th gear syncro fix, but it seemed a little high. I was hoping some people out there who had a shop do their work would be willing to share how much they spent on their transmissions. Thanks.

There's got to be someone that can offer you a helping hand.

A total guess....
You have to remove and replace the transmission, 6 to 8 labor hrs at ~ $85 per,
Fix the synchro, ~ 1. 5 labor hrs at ~ $85 per.
Parts, ~ $120.
Fluids, ~$50

While your in there, and if the car has any miles on it at all, you could also consider:
*New throw-out bearing
*Rear transmission seal
*Replace/repack pilot bearing
*Resurface pressure plate
*Re-torque engine tension bolts (while pressure plate is removed)
*Replace clutch fork

That's interesting. I'd think it would be quicker to just place the transmission as opposed to getting in there to replace the syncro.

There's a chance the replacement will have the same problem or develop it.

Better to just fix it so you won't have to worry about it.

Thought did cross my mind as well

why replace clutch fork? are they prone to going bad on rx7's?

On the FD they've been known to fatique over time and fail/break. Especially with upgraded (stiffer) pressure plates. I just put it out there. It's certainly not mandated. But it would suck to pull the tranny a second time just for that...and I don't think they're all that much.

Probably a good idea with 120k on the car
