How much does a 12A engine weight?

Does anyone know the approximate weight of a 12A engine, stripped down to just from the flywheel to the front cover?

I'm planning on rebuilding the 12A in my 84.

I do not have the means to remove the flywheel nut so my plan is to transport the engine, to our local mechanic.

I have two full-size Ford vans with side wheelchair lifts. One has a capacity of 550 lbs, the other 600 lbs. I have not been able to locate the weight of a 12A engine to know if this scheme is feasible.

I've located:
Local mechanic to remove flywheel nut
Diesel engine repair shop to install flywheel nut
Equipment rental for engine hoist.

Next: clean up the garage for adequate work space.
(I feel a photo album in the making.)

most quotes i've seen have it coming in a little under 300 pounds. i just can't remember if that was fully dressed or just the bare block.

what i can say for sure is your wheelchair-lift can probably lift two engines at a time. you're good. also, great call on the diesel shop. i wish i had been aware of them when i was younger. it could have saved many a flywheel nut that i helped transition into the next world.

I've had a 18 wheeler tire repair service to come to my house and spin the thing off.
I changed the stuff over and they came back and tightened the nut back on.

That's a thought. Saves on transportation.

You've pretty well got the resources to take that thing on a road trip so you can get the nut taken off.
I opted for that method because I was one guy with a car UP on stands with the flywheel accessable as the car was on stands on 4 points.

You gave the engine the Jenny Craig diet and removed the fat to get it movable!
It'd be cheaper for you to take it to them,then they come to you.They would charge you a service call..and for what?.ONE Nut!

I'm also looking into an engine stand.
I'm a one-man shop so I thing it will be useful. Also, they come on wheels which saves me making a dolly for transportation.
The wheelchair tie-downs are aircraft rated. Hate to have 300lbs freewheeling in the back.

Put the keg on a old used Tire Tim..
I do that to my kegs and they don't go anywhere...and I'm not exactly "Granny" when driving the Montana.
