How do i make my fc louder
 

I have an 88 fc n/a put a cat back exhaust on it a few months ago but not as loud as i would like, i already removed the gay silencer inside the pipe, will removing the cat make it much louder? what does any recommend/have on theres, thanks:icon_tup:

Install a high flow cat or a resonator in place of the cat. Replace the exhaust manifold with a header.

But honestly, why? Just a little louder then stock is nice and aggressive. It's not about the amount of noise, it's the quality of the noise. Why have a sub 200HP car that is louder then a jet dragster?

Unbolt the exhaust manifold from the side of the engine, and leave the exhaust system in the garage.

are u serious there? just asking i have mine with all cats removed and striaght free flow the rest the way and it does sound like a mini jet. real crisp and clear when im getting on it.

alright i like rotary rrockets answer the best haha..but ill probably just end up removing the cats even if it doesnt give it any more power i kinda want it to be louder than my neighbors eclipse and honda..sh*t pisses me off

just remember that if you remove your catylitic converter and install a high flow cat or straight pipe, make sure you install the pipe and flange on the side of the new converter for the pressure tube for the 5th and 6th ports. disregarding that tube will result in a MUCH slower 7 and you will hurt overall performance.

Are there any performance cats that have holes for those tubes already?

MUCH slower? I dont have that crap hooked up. Still spins through 1st, second and chirps third.

THrowing rocks down the oil fill tube always makes for a louder car.

My personal favorite (when it comes to noisemakers) is a 3" straight pipe with NO cats, NO resinators, NO muffler and a spark cut (hard cut 2 stage) rev limiter.


I'm going to end my post there. I've been "warned" by the mods enough.....

So let me get this straight, you have your aux. port actuators non-functional? Or just wired open?

The first option means plenty of top-end power lost since you will turn your 6-port engine into a 4-port. Roughly 25hp lost.

The second option makes the car have less torque below 3800 RPM due to decreased intake air velocity. This isn't a good idea on an engine that is already short on torque. The only way you're not going to notice it is if you never drop below 3800 RPM (ie a track car). It'll be very obvious at every stop-sign or stop-light. I've tried it when testing aux. ports, and it makes the car anemic until 3k+ RPM.

Both are great ways to make the car slower, but for different reasons.

1. Remove cat will make it fairly loud.

2. Need cat? unbolt y-pipe from cat and add a few washers between the two to make a 1/4" gap - makes it throaty as hell and you can easily undo this to make it "normal".

3. Got cash? Buy a RB road race system - sounds beautiful!

Of course a header will add power. But you also have to free up the rest of the exhaust.

take off the fast and the furious spolier and youll be faster and louder.:icon_tup::lol:


oh a helpful note, becareful removing your cat on an n/a your car will be too loud if its straight piped. you can really only get away with that on a turbo, since the turbo blankets all that noise.

if you want really loud, cant you just straight pipe from the resonators to the hi-flow cats then to the exhaust. if you want super loud, remove that exhaust not so much my style

getting my car inspected is not an issue so im getting rid of the cats, and im keeping my muffler on

if i was in ur shoes witch i was less than 6 months ago i would just replace the cats with race pipe and get free flow mufflers if you dont alrdy. and if ur ports dont open witch mine wouldnt. then u can always get a msd or related rpm switch set it to 3800 rpm and hookm it to a air pump (the internal part of a bike tire pump) it must be electric. hook it upthey a write up on rotary resurrection on how to hook it up.(if u get a adjustable switch instead of msd u wont need the proper pills to set it. only cost me 50$ for the switch(ebay) and 15$ for the pump(bought at walmart). now i have a loud race exhuast and my ports still open perfectly.

For what it's worth, when I had my '86 Sport, I had Racing Beats' Header and Presilencer to Apexi Dual N1s and it was amazingly loud. I'd look into replacing the manifold with a header and remove the cat and go straight pipe like everyone else has said, or use RB Presilencer The RB presilencer has the air tube for the 5th and 6th ports.

Wow. I'm on the other side of the spectrum and want mine quieter. I live in CA where the cops are all over my ass if I stand out at all.

What cat back are you running?

if quiet want u want they make a in muffler or in pipe silencer thats in the shape of a cone. no air restriction and blankets loads of noise. there usually for muscle cars but should work just the same.

or he can just get the exhaust butterfly valves? apperently from what ive herd, mustang guys use em?
