Houston Help plz Subaru traded for RX7 FC

Hi, everyone I'm very new to RX7 and currently going to trade my 2009 Subaru WRX for a RX7 in Houston TX. Help needed in the sense that I don't know anything about these cars. And need someone to accompany me to check out the car for me. If someone would be so kind to assist me, I may also add a small fee for your troubles and time. I know only from what I've read about in the forum about these car (RX7). Please help, and any advise won't be taken lightly and also any criticism won't be taken personal, in fact I encourage it. Thank you for time and support...

Seeing a battery charger hooked up to it already worries me. Looks like you know your way around a car looking at the subie, 7s are not any different, they are a car, now a shuttlecraft except for the space age technology under the hood lol

Biggest thing is has it been rebuilt? If it hasn't than honestly, walk away, if it has and they can PROVE it, compression test it, if it bumps over 100 psi, you should be ok

Reason?

So having it rebuild is a good thing, how come? For knowledge purposes, and if so is it more reliable if it was rebuild? Also it has a apexi power FC Tuner, assuming something similar to a Cobb Tuner but still

The engines in these cars could be called temperamental. If you do not keep up with maintenance the engine will go. Given these cars have gotten to the price point where people can buy them who then cannot keep up with the maintenance required means it's questionable whether the engine is on its last legs or not. However, a fresh rebuild means it's all on you, not the previous owner(s).

Seriously though, look up rotary compression test with a piston compression tester and if it's not ~100+ don't get it. If it hasn't been "recently" rebuilt it won't be that high.

Given what appears to be a child's seat in your wrx I'm unsure of why you're going to switch to an older and potentially more temperamental rwd car?

Im getting married soon, and need a trade plus cash on top so I can pay for the some of the things i need. But as the same time i dont want stay without a car and also loved this 80's old RX7. As for the Car Seat, my son with the other person that i am no longer with and almost never see him because he live 8hours away so it hard for me. Plus my wife has a New Subaru STI and we usually use her car when he around or for pick ups. I guess i just like RX7-FC body, but still a bit nervous in whether im doing the right thing. I'm still open for any offers if anyone lives somewhat near my area. Hope this answer your question, and thanks for caring.

Unless you are mechanically inclined then this car just may be a Headache as they need constant attention and honestly you just can't fully depend on them.
They are a Fun car when they are working properly but HOW LONG they do that is up to the owner and his attention to maintenance.

If this car is going to be your only source of transportation then personally I would pass and keep the Subie.
NOW if the RX7 is a weekend warrior and you can handle the financial setbacks of tying your money up in it(with your upcoming marriage being crucial to a financial crunch) then by all means grab it and enjoy.

Just remember it is JUST A CAR..and they exists in thousands,so they are not extinct and you can get one later on when your situation improves.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks guys, I was watching some vids on the rebuild on these car. Look hard but at the same time easy in some parts. I'm still thinking about it since I wouldn't have a back up plan. But I kid you not, I'm falling in love with the idea of riding in the Right Hand and Even more in Classic Japan RX7 FC. Driving myself crazy debating, the RX7 is already at the port and will be picked up this Monday morning 9/29/15. I am going to ask him if the car has been rebuild on Monday, and get back with you guys. But if I do get it, I'm going to need a back up car and taking your advise. Thanks

Looks like a dyno to me, but that still doesn't tell you anything about engine health

The Dyno graph shows the build up of Hopes and dreams...Only to fade off later to a financial cloud of destruction.
..Been there..got the Read Out....!
My car started out nicely...then MAXED out 3 Credit cards..hahahahaha!..If you look at the bottom of the graph you can see a place for Tears!

(Just kidding..love the car..hate the "glitches"..!)
