High miles

I have a friend with a 13b non turbo with 230,000 miles hess willing to sell me. Is that to many to mess with?

That's a high mileage vehicle regardless of the type of engine. At that mileage, figure that there is going to be some major work to get the car into good shape. Like brakes, suspension, bushings, etc. Everything will just be worn out. If the engine is going strong, then there's no reason to worry. But it is getting up there in mileage so it may just be worn out a well.

That mileage is worrying, but if he is proud of that car and has taken well care of it, then you just need to check if it works well. Every car is a case. They can have lots of miles on them, but if we maintain them well, they can last for long.
Just check if it works well. Don't take his word for it.

I was told these engines can go 200 to 300 thousand without any problems!

That's a lot of miles but if it was well maintained go for it!

Yeah, mileage doesn't mean everything. Just keep in mind, like every one has said, the whole vehicle will be tired. Bushings, suspension, interior parts, drivetrain, even electrical contacts will be fairly worn.

As long a squeaks and rattles dont bother you, and you can afford to replace the suspension, bushings, steering components, clutch, all other basic maintenance for a high mileage vehicle and have a bit of money on the side, just in case. I'd say go for it.

If you cant afford to replace/upgrade all that stuff, then I wouldn't recommend it.

I just bought an 87 fc with 210,000 and it runs strong. but as the other members posted its going to be worn my major problems as of now are only my clutch and throwout bearing which i will be replacing this weekend and i already changed the rear shocks but after this im moving on to all bushings front and back after along with some springs new shocks for the front and other small miscellanious parts but she may just need a little bit of love. mine also didnt come with the rear interior so i am going to custom make it out of fiberglass and such its a long process but its worth it in the end :noyes:
