Help!
I have a 1980 RX-7. Bought her several years ago and drove her home. She has sat for a while. Cranked her a couple of years ago and she blew smoke. Found out she has gas in the oil. I really want to completely restore my beautiful RX-7 but I need help. Any information or advice? My husband wants to do a 350 conversion but .........

Well, that is a BIG question to answer.
The first step is to go through the car and find out what needs to be done. Clean everything, take a good look at the engine bay, interior, underbody and make a basic list of tasks necessary. If the engine has been improperly stored, you are in for some annoyance. It may require a rebuild. Smoke after sitting is pretty normal but if the proper procedures were not followed to start the engine after a long period of sitting, damage will have occurred. This should help in that department: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm It deals with 2nd gens but if you ignore the EFI stuff it applies to all RX-7s. |
Thank you, Aaron, for the information and the quick response. I gotta feeling I'll have a lot more questions before too long.
