Help with an '85 Gs stuttering at 3000 rpm
 

Hi all, this is my first post (longtime viewer - you've helped me out on a million occasions!), and I just had a little question about a carbureted 85' GS.

I had purchased the car, on impulse, a little ways back in September of this year, and since then, have used it nearly everyday (short trips, school, the gym, etc). It's had about 700 miles put on it in that time, but out of all the little oddities and such (many of which I've managed to fix w/ this forums help), one problem is still bugging me.

A description:
The vehicle has 104500 miles on it, and sat for about...1-2 years before I picked it up. Upon fixing most major issues, I've discovered no solution for what I can only describe as an incredibly exact jerking, always at 3000 rpm's, in every gear. Except neutral. At first, I considered the transmission as a likely culprit (made a few funky sounds).

However the other day, I was messing around with the choke lever (situated on the left side of the steering wheel) and realized, that while driving, with the choke totally pulled out, the car blasts through the entire rpm range uninhibited, every single time. I'm not sure what could possibly be causing this, but I'm more confident than ever in the possibility of it being related to the fuel delivery system.

If anyone has any insight, or has experienced a problem like this, I'd really appreciate some guidance on the subject. I feel like the solution is very simple, but perhaps I'm wrong, who knows.

how does it idle?
do you get any misfiring?

here are a few simple things you can try:

- check the timing
- adjust the mixture
- tune up

Carb rebuild. All the choke does is enrich the mixture by means of limiting air. You need a clean carb to flow enough gas for an open choke.
