Heating up while driving
 

Ok guys I need some help! I purchased an 88 FC NA and I noticed while driving that my temp gauge kept creeping higher and higher to a point where I had to turn it off because I thought it was overheating (right under 3/4) I have recently replaced my hoses temp gauge radiator and thermostat but still does the same thing. It has yet to actually overheat but it goes over half on my temp gauge. I also installed an aftermarket temp gauge that shows it gets up to about 80-90 degrees Celsius (Couldn't find one in Fahrenheit) which converted over is 180 to 195 give or take. Any ideas as to what might cause this? Is it bad?

I do have other friends with rx7s and their temp doesn't go above 1/4 but mine sits usually at about half. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated! Sorry for no pictures I'm on my phone at the moment but I'll try to put some up when I get home.

your aftermarket is more accurate than the stocker, if it doesn't go above 180-190, you should be fine, I believe the stock thermostat opens at 185? someone will chime in and say for sure

also, when you replace the thermostat, did you replace with a mazda OEM? those seem to be the only ones these cars like

^^ this is all correct, the stock thermostat should open between 177 and 183°, always use the OEM thermostat and rad cap, readings in the middle or just above on the factory gauge are common

I'd worry if it gets to 230 or so..
Other than that,drive the shit out of it.

Also it has turning on once it gets to operating temp. If I turn it off after driving it, almost guaranteed it will have trouble turning back on. Usually I just pull my injector fuse crank it for a bit and put it back in and it will usually start. Any idea what that is or any way to fix?

Sounds like a tired engine or leaky injectors

You could just turn the heat on in your car. Its temporary and uncomfortable but it will help a little bit if you can't pull over.
