Hearing a whoosh sound from the intake manifold
Okay I am having problems starting my car I had it running then the next day I tried to start it and it didn't want to start and with the fuel pump on it started making a whoosh sound from the intake manifold. I am thinking a possible injector stuck open? Any suggestions would help

are you trying to start the car without the AFM hooked up?
(and by the way, you can hear a stuck fuel injector.Explanation by Mr Cake below.) |
A stuck injector is pretty easy to hear if it is firehosing fuel into the manifold. Jumper the fuel pump test connector (yellow two pin at the passenger shock tower) and key the car on but don't start it. You'll hear the fuel rushing through the rails, but if you remove the upper intake, a stuck injector will be obvious.
Make sure to drain all that fuel out of the engine before you try to turn it over! |
I did a fuel pump rewire so that the fuel pump is on when the key is on so when I unplugged it I stopped hearing the sound. is there any way to clean a stuck injector after taking it out of the car?( I am asking dumb questions I know but I know little about rotaries)

You send them off to get them cleaned.
Check out www.Witchunter.com or Injector-Rehab - Fuel injector cleaning, flow testing, and complete blueprinting service. do all 4..no sense in doing just one. |

The stock ECU stops the fuel pump as soon as the engine stops rotating, preventing this from happening. There is zero valid reason to modify the pump to run all the time. None of this is rotary specific. A fuel injector is a fuel injector. Remove the injectors then take them to your local injection shop (check the Yellow Pages). Normally about $30 per injector to have them cleaned. Note you can also prove if one is leaking by just removing the fuel rail with injectors attached, hold the injectors in, and power up the fuel pump. The stuck injector will spray fuel. |
I did that rewire just to get fuel into the engine it's just temporary. I have another stupid question. There is a big metal canister type thing underneath my turbo I'm not a 100% sure what it is. I know what my waste gate looks like and it's underneath all of that.
