Haltech vs Power FC
 

Whats up guys. I need your opinion on this matter. What fuel management system do you guys prefer. Haltech or Apexi Power FC and why?

i run a power fc on my 93 fd......i had it recomened to me by a guy that builds and drifts rx7s......made a big difference and i would recomend it to anyone.......

I'm assuiming you are talking about on an FD. On an FC it's a bit more complicated. The biggest advantage of the Power FC is the ease of installation (plugs right into the FD harness), and the fact that it is the most commonly used engine management system for the FD. It also operates all the emissions equipment. It doesn't have some of the more sophisticated features of the Haltech like nitrous control, 2 step launch control, etc.

Using the factory wiring harness (Power FC) has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the PFC plugs right in as I mentioned. The factory harness also fits properly and has the factory wiring diagrams. It is shielded from electrical noise well. But if your harness is falling apart you may have to replace it.

For the Haltech you usually have to build your own harness by modifying the one they send you. That means you replace the factory harness, which is nice if the factory harness is in bad shape but IMO just more work if you are replacing a good condition factory harness. You can also wire in some of those extra features I mentioned, but since you are in the New Member forum right now I doubt you will take advantage of that. For your purposestThe Haltech also can't control the stock emissions equipment like the PFC can.

pfc seems to be the favorite. thats what my roommate uses on his fd

first off the Power FC and Haltech do a lot more then just fuel management.
for a street car (even one that gets a lot of track time), power FC is the way to go.
if its a race car, where you are going to constantly be tuning the car, need to have several maps. (your not going to run the same maps at Waatkinsglen and Seabring) also with a race car the stock harness can get in the way.

standalone or piggyback?
 

What would somebody recommend for a basic piggyback setup for a turbo fc with a larger turbo and bigger injectors?

I bought a Haltech E6K system last summer but have yet to install it because I am scared my car will never start again if i put it in.

So would just having something to control the fuel be safe for just street use, or maybe just put the haltech in and have more options down the road maybe?
