General Fixes

The car I am about to buy has a slight brake fluid leak and coolant leak. Where would be the best bets that these are at? would a general full line replacement work or would it be in the master cylinder, reservoirs, etc... Also what are some good tips for general carb adjustment. Thank you in advance and I'll keep searching for answers.

I would keep looking if I were you if you haven't bought it yet. It's nice to start without problems, and for every one you are told about there are two you aren't told/owner doesn't know about. Obviously it depends how much you are getting said car (is it your 83 you have listed?) for, and how much fluids are actually leaking.

As far as the bare basics of coolant leeks go, just trace the whole coolant system and look for a sticky/messy buildup, if you are lucky its just a hose or connection that needs to be replaced. If you are unlucky your going to need someone who knows a hell of a lot more about these cars then me.

have the person selling the car to point out where the leaks are. if it's drum rear it's usually the wheel cylinders that start leaking, or it could be the master cylinder which would be evident by the wrinkled paint on the bottom of the booster. coolant leak could be any number of places. just look for signs.

Oh sorry it's an '83 RX7 LE. He's only asking $800 for it but I am going to try to get it down to hopefully $500-$600. Is this a fair price? I know I will be having to put a little extra cash into the car to fix it up and make it a DD so is it worth it? My budget is big right now and am just looking for a start to a great end. Will most likely be raced once a 13BT or BTT is thrown in
down the road. But all that won't be for a while until I get more stable paychecks. thanks for the speedy replies btw as I am looking to get this within the next few days hopefully.

Well went to look at the car today. the coolant leak is extremely minor and only happens during cold weather and its the hose near the bottom left of the radiator if you are facing the front of the car. couldn't find the brake fluid leak but didn't effect brake performance that much. The steering seemed to be kinda stiff. would there be a reason/fix for this? I didn't mind much having driven non-power steering a lot in the racing/drifting area. the only worry I have is with the back right suspension. theres a good hunk of rust on the part of some suspension component going straight from the knuckle towards the front of the car. Would have to weld it back together but just wondering if it would be worth it. what do you think I should offer? some slight surface rust here and there but ill be sanding the whole body down and redoing some of the patches and completely repainting the whole car. Thanks in advance and I hope to be picking this up soon if I deem it worthwhile which I do so far.
