Is there a place to buy aftermarket gaskets for the turbos/exhaust for reasonable prices? Also any common places for grounds in the engine harness to go bad?

The turbo gaskets S4 and S5 are Mazda proprietary,meaning the are unique.
It is not often you can get them as an aftermarket gasket but not impossible.
The Engine to Manifold gasket can be found also,but is usually an inferior product.Personally I ate the bucks and went with the OEM metal gasket for engine to manifold.

Well I wasn't wanting to dump a lot of money into the rotary just yet until I figure out my ultimate goals for the car. But it has a monster exhaust leak as the previous owner was an idiot and shouldn't have been "working" on the car. Needless to say he pulled the turbos off to do the non-sequential mod and used RTV on all the gaskets. So I've just been fixing all his bad craftsmanship since I've had the car, about 3 weeks now. Is there a better online source to get the gaskets from other than mazdatrix?

From your profile I see you have an FD. It helps if you specify what year car you have.....or better yet, just put it in your signature while you're in the New Member Section. From your screen name I actually figured you for a 1st Gen.

As for gaskets....
Get OEM. I know they're expensive but rotary exhaust is much hotter than the typical piston engine and you don't want to go cheap. There is...or was a company making re-production gaskets but there were mixed results from those trying them. I've also heard of guys reusing used OEM gaskets by anealing (SP?) them....but I don't know. And as you've probably found out by now, removing turbos with the engine in the car isn't alot of fun. Regardless, I recommend cleaning or chasing threads on the exhaust studs and nuts and using hi-temp anti-seize before torquing to FSM specs too.

As for harness grounds going bad...I don't think they do frequently. Although I suppose if your engine's been out and re-installed improperly w/o hooking them all up. Usually I think the issue is just corrosion/dirt that's probably common on any 20+ year old car.

Ok thanks for the info guys. I'll give the grounds a look when its not so cold outside. I've checked a couple I found and still seem to have a bad one somewhere. For example I've got the idle down but if you turn on an electrical load such as the lights, blower motor etc. the idle jumps up.

This is normal.
