gas smell?
 

hey so here's the issue...

when i am accelerating past about 4000 rpm and i shift the BOV vents to atmosphere and there is a distinct smell of raw fuel in the cabin. only seems to happen when i am running boost > 4 psi. i am assuming that my throttle plates aren't shutting fast enough and that some air/fuel mixture is being vented as well. just wondering if that is normal, as my only other turbo experience is with a toyota ijz-gte twin turbo.

the bov is located on the intake pipe leading to the throttle body.

The car is probably just running very rich under boost. Do you have a way to monitor AFRs? What engine management are you running?

check for leaks at the pulsation dampner and injectors too.....

i am running a haltech e6x, i'm pretty sure i can monitor afr through there...butttt not sure how to interpret the data in an applicable way lol.


as for leaks at the PD and injectors, i have checked the pulsation dampener, there are no leaks and it is relatively new, it's an s5 five motor and i have replaced the fuel rails. As far as the injectors go i can't see any leaks...

Who did your tune? Sounds like it is just very rich.

i'm not sure who did the tune, apparently some guy in ontario or quebec. no first hand contact with him. i don't really know where to start when it comes to making fuel maps. I mean, i understand how to use the program, but practical application is beyond me. to be honest im just worried about creating a lean condition. any hints or tips? i might take it to get tuned by my local rotary shop but cash is an issue when you're in school!

Yeah, I don't suggest you start messing with it if you don't have a way of monitoring AFRs or any tuning experience. You might be stuck either just living with the richness, or going to a dyno with someone familiar with rotary tuning.
