ok, i just bought new NGK spark plugs(platinum), wires, fuel filter and an O2 sensor. everything went perfect untell the O2 sensor. its on there. the FSM/chilton are worth the paper they were printed on when it comes to basic stuff, the onlything i can find is "remove 02 sensor"....WTF.....my car is DUMPING fuel. the wire was cut off inorder to get a socked on there to get more tourq...so now i have NO o2 sencor....35 bucks worth of nice plugs are getting fucked up and im about irrate with this fen car......any help as to the best way to remove the sensor without spending any more money i dont have would rock...you guys always have a great view poin on this stuff. and my car will love you! thanks

Penetrant of choice + 02 sensor socket.

+1, get the proper O2 sensor socket + good leverage breaker bar.

umm did your really cut the wire to the o2 sensor ? There is a plug that it disconnects at. Im pretty sure at one of your local auto parts stores that allows you to barrow tools they have a nice deep socket for 02 sensors and if your working on it in the parking lot you might be able to get it out. Without having to pay for more stuff.

we have the socket. there is no room to get a prybar in there...broke a few extentions trying to get that to work. it seems to be seized. used wd40/liquid wrench, and yes coke-a-cola lol. have tried all maner of things, even let the penetrating stuff dry out and then started and ran the car around the block a few times to try it while it was up to O.T. as far as the conecter, yes we unpluged it. then cut the wire off of the sensor to splice into the new senser...i know im being ceap and i also know i should not have cliped the wire untell the sensor was off...but what can you do?:nod: but i still havent decided what the final plans for the car mod wise are so i didnt want to drop a ton on a new o2 and then find out it will be deleted later. any who. after about 9hrs of trying to get this f'en thing off. i decided that im going to leave it the way it is for now. later when i do the exhaust i will be fixing a small leak, so the manifold will be comming off(ohh joy!) so i will replace it then. i havent gotten a check engine light so i think the idiot lights arnt working, unless the o2 being removed dosnt trip it.

Don't blame the manual for lack of experience. :)

WD-40 is not a useful penetrating oil. A better product like PB Blaster may help, but honestly, the sensor seals with a little washer so the penetrating oil probably won't get to the threads.

Since the sensor is already mangled, heat it cherry red with a torch and then remove it. A crows foot wrench may help. If you are breaking extensions, it sounds like you might have some cheap tools. Pick up a 3/4" drive breaker bar with the appropriate socket and go to town.

However, having the O2 sensor disconnected isn't going to cause your car to "dump fuel". You are probably looking at another problem.

i agree wd=40 sucks. i just got a map gas tourch from my stepdad, he said i should heat up the manifold so the threds expand, not the o2sensor. do you think getting it to red hot will work? and they wernt cheap extenstions. one was a snap on the other was a craftsman...getting new ones lol. for some reason when a braker bar come into play i WILL break somthing.... most just wratchets:) but i will try it your way with getting the o2sencor red hot, you seem to know your stuff verry well. also on a side note. i was about to borrow a timing light from a mechanic buddy of mine to check ans possibly set my timing (to factory spec) and he said "i wont let you use my tools to destroty a rotary, those little things are really twitchy and if you do anything but check it. it will never run right ever agin." i call BS on that. you guys set your timing all the time..wel as needed am i right? i mean what good would a car be if you could not adjust the timing? dont worry if you tell me my frind is a dip shyt i wont be mad:P thanks

The mechanic buddy of yours was either joking, or is a complete and raving idiot. Setting timing to factory spec is going to cause no problems at all. Then again, unless someone has played with the position of your CAS, timing already is at factory spec.

Heating the exhaust manifold is going to be quite hard due to the fact that it is about 25 LBs of cast iron. I don't think you'll get enough heat out of the torch. Heating the O2 sensor and then spraying in some PB Blaster at the threads will thermally shock the sensor and probably break it free.

ok now i just feel dumb, spray pb blaster at the o2 sensor while it is red hot? thought that stuff was flamible? but yea. i thought he was being a dip shit. you guys are amazing!

PB blaster is a mix of ether, oil, petroleum & alcohol. It will definitely have a chance of igniting if you spray it on a red-hot 02 sensor/manifold. I'd say if you want to shock the metal by rapidly changing the temperature, spray a little water on it.

get a can of dust-off turn it upside down and spray the liquid onto the sensor to super cool it. could shrink it enough to get it out. (ive never tried this but it seems like it could work lol)


also when you used the penetrating oil did you give it a couple sharp taps with a wrench or something solid? that helps loosen fasteners.

ok, i was about to say, most penatrating sprays are flamible, very flamible. but the idea of using a can of air upside down...that is one hell of an idea. when i get around to doing it, i will post back with out it worked

PB Blaster is almost impossible to ignite. I do this all the time with damaged fasteners and have never seen it do anything but boil off. The idea is to make the part contract quickly, which will SUCK PB Blaster into the threads.

The way i got mine out was i got a hammer and broke off the sensor. Then with some PB, i got my impact gun and the sucker came off, after about 10-15 seconds with the gun on the sensor. I wouldn't say its the smartest way to do things, but if your desperate and simply don't care, give it a try. lol
