Fitting Rota D2EX's to an RX-7 FD - Fitment issue?
 

Hey guys,

I'm the new owner of an FD and I'm looking to replace the existing rims. After an embarrassing amount of time obsessing over which ones to go for, I've really fallen for the Rota D2EX.

The issue is the offset's.

In the spec I need (18, 5x114.3, 9.5) the only offset offered appears to be ET12, though ET38 is offered on the 5x100 PCD :scratch:

My understanding is that an offset is too low without massively rolling the fenders, which doesn't seem to be the case in the pics?

Will these wheels fit an FD or would it require significant work?

My car has slightly wider front and rear arches due to a burnout style kit if that makes a difference?

they are offered in ET38 for the size you want..

I can't find them for sale anywhere and have checked all the usual (and less usual) rim sites with no joy.

Do you have any links to them in this configuration?

I'm based in the UK so things might be different over here.

It appears both front and rear tires are stretched and fender are indeed rolled...completely.

I think that's the BurnOut kit. Either that or those rear fenders have been flared, too.

The 18x9.5 +18 will fit with a 245/35-18 with front fender roll with some pull and -2.4 (max stock) front camber and will fit the rear with a roll with no pull and stock -1.2 camber.

With the Burnout fenders you could cut the inner fender lip and fit a wider tire or use less camber- otherwise I don't think they are going to fit anything wider than the stock fenders would with a rolled lip- and if tire touches fiberglass it is ugly, so you need more clearance.

It is really close on the outside fender to the 18x11 +45 and 295/30-18 that I run.

18x9.5 +18 245/35-18 versus 18x11 +45 295/30-18

So, that goes to show if you shift your dream wheels to the real Work Meister (available in any width/offset) instead of those Rota knock-offs you could run a much wider wheel and tire with the same amount of fender work.

I've got a body kit on mine so rolling won't be an option even if it wasn't too tight.

Might just hang on to the current setup and save up for some real ones, original TE37's or the Work Meisters would look great.

Would buy some now if I hadn't just spent all my cash on the car ;)

there is absolutely nothing wrong with running knock offs...
the difference can be small enough for those that are on a budget.. most dont need the variance to a point to justify the cost or hype..
there are of course ones to stay away from... but those are getting less prevalent
also depends on what you want to use them for...

Foremost in the context of this thread is the fact that most only come in narrow and low offset sizing for the "Hella Flush" crowd to stretch even skinnier tires on.

18x9.5 +18 with 245/35-18 versus 18x11 +45 with 295/30-18 is the difference we are talking about here. That is significant.
