First to Second shift difficult
 

My tranny is fairly difficult to shift from first to second, and when it does it invariably makes a metallic noise or even a full nasty grinding "CHRK".

I've had to start double clutching for 1->2 (which completely alleviates the issue). The other gears are fine. Only 50K on the clock.

I'm guessing this is likely to be a synchro problem? Any input muchly appreciated.

synchros are carbon in rx7s and usually 1-2 go out first, replace the synchro

Thanks for the advice guys - I'll get a quote from my local garage, as pulling the tranny is a little beyond my tools & garage size right now!

I had a similar problem. I kept riding it and then the unexpected, the tranny lost first and second gear. I took it to a shop and they told me that i'm better off replacing the tranny. So I did. I bought one for $200
