fd3s single turbo

Hi people

I'm Joel from Portugal and I bought a rx7 fd3s single turbo, the turbo is a t4 turbo a/r.63 exhaust(i think it's little turbo for this engine), injection setup is 850cc+1680cc and FPR aeromotive, pump fuel 340l/h aeromotive, big front mount intercooler, hks ignition power, apexi power fc.
The cars running very good at low/mid rpm, but when i want running more fast with boost is slow, not running fast.
What's the problema you suspected? Turbo it's not good to this engine? Apexi Power fc tune not good?

Sorry for my english, i hope you understand

diabolical1 10-13-13 06:22 PM

welcome to the board. :)

if i'm understanding what you're saying correctly, then your problem is probably your turbine. the 0.63 is too small and killing your top end. for all i know the WHOLE turbocharger may be wrong for your engine. however, you never mentioned the compressor side, so i can't comment on that.

JSarabando 10-14-13 03:17 PM

Sorry, 0.68AR, At this moment the turbo is temporarily, the Compressor wheel is .70A/R, Inducer: 91mm, Exducer 69.20mm, Turbine wheel: .68A/R, Inducer: 74.00mm, Exducer: 64.10mm

I have other turbo upgrade to install, it's a ball bearing turbonetics mid-frame 88mm but i hope the problema is the small turbo

JSarabando 10-14-13 04:12 PM

I have the next turbo to install, compressor is a/r.95 88mm inducer, exhaust is 78mm turbine and a/r is 1.15mm

I have a stock port engine and i know it's a very large turbo and i suspected have very laaaggg, what's rpm i will go have full boost? 5500/6000rpm?

That turbo looks bigger than the engine! What are you plans? Drag racing?

Yes, it's bigger. My plans is streetracing and dragracing. I hope have a good results with this turbo :). My goal is 500hp, is possible with setup injection 850+1680cc injectors? My engine have stock porting

Any rx7 fd in this fórum with similar turbo?

diabolical1 10-17-13 02:44 PM

if you use the stickies to help you boost your post count, then you will be able to check out the Single Turbo forum. you should be able to get information on many cars that have similar, if not the same, setup as you plan to run.

just be sure to get your posts the right way.

Id go bridgeport, or a 6 port with aggressive street porting to help with that power goal! Reason why I suggest a 6 port is because of this thread right here. Gives good info on 6 ports: http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.p...45e2ed&start=0

i have nothing against turbocharged 6 ports. they're not for me, but i do respect them. however, swap a 6 port into an FD for 500 HP? absolute rubbish! please stop.

It's easy to goal 500hp with stock port, 850-1680cc injection and this turbonetics? Around 16psi... :egrin:

BLACK MAMBA 10-17-13 03:22 PM

Your turbine is too small, minimum I would run is a .96

You can get to 500 hp with stock ports and your fuel setup, but not with that turbine housing, that housing is going to create to much back pressure and very high EGT.

But not around 16 psi, more likely 18-20 psi

I would suggest you a Borg Warner S366 with a .91 housing if all you looking for is 500hp

ne0tas 10-17-13 03:23 PM

Oh, I totally derped. I just noticed he has an fd :P my mistake!

i wasn't speaking about your fuel versus horsepower goals, i was speaking simply of the wisdom of swapping out your REW for a Gen II 6 port.

that said, i am a little leery of you using the word "easy" in the same sentence as 500 HP Rx-7. continue your research.

JSarabando 10-17-13 04:05 PM

Thanks BLACK MAMBA for your information, really i think my turbonetics is more bigger than Borg Warner S366 or am I mistaken

the turbonetics mid-frame compressor housing is a/r 0.95 and exhaust housing is a/r 1.15

What's you think about spool? 5500/6000rpm full boost? Or earlier?

BLACK MAMBA 10-17-13 07:25 PM

I think a 88 mm turbo is a bit big for your 500 hp power goal, but at least you have room to grow if you ever want more power.

JSarabando 10-18-13 04:43 AM

Thanks for your reply BLACK MAMBA.

After install the turbo i need tune PowerFC, after i post results.

kylemo 10-25-13 04:09 PM

I'm interested to see how this works out for you, I was thinking of going to a big single myself this winter. Can't wait to see the results!

dvaz 10-27-13 12:20 AM

Serious turbo

Wow that thing is pretty big is a good thing you seem to have plenty of fuel

JSarabando 10-27-13 11:20 AM

my injection fuel setup is 850cc+1680cc injectors

JSarabando 10-27-13 11:22 AM

after tune i think at 1.2 or 1.3bar have good results, i hope :)

OkinawaFD3S 10-30-13 12:12 AM

3rd Generation Fuel Calculator

at 85% max injector duty your fuel system is good for 650 hp at the flywheel. That is plenty of fuel for 500 whp and gives you a nice safety cushion.

Turbonetics T88 mid-frame installed(sorry for little picture) :(

JSarabando 08-13-14 08:55 AM

The engine start and runs good at low and mid range revs, after turbo pulls the old problem continue, it's very very very slow at highs revs.
Spark plugs check, fuel filter check, vacum silicone hoses check....

Any ideas about this problem? I don't have tune to this turbo but I think isn't why don't is fast in high revs

No tune + Lag
